Power Balance wristbands

I noticed Poulter wearing one during the Ryder Cup but if 'we' think wearing one will improve our game we are diluded. He is a player because he has dedicated his life to the game not coz he wears a bit of rubber.

I had a demo in the pro shop yesterday which was very interesting. Stand on one leg with your arms out then the assistant pushed down on my left arm, which put me off balance. Then he did the same with the balance band in my right hand and I my balance was really strong.

I didn't understand it and tried it a couple of times. I still can't believe a little band can make that much of a difference.

Try the same exercise the other way round with the miracle bracelet on first.

These things have no effect on balance whatsoever, and an endorsement from Ian Poulter ought to add to your suspicion that these are simply for appearance.

I am wearing one and can't say its worth 30 pounds or so!!!

If it was 2 euro's I would say it's worth it as it looks cool...

Not sure if it works...
I haven't noticed much really.

These things are simply a placebo that makes the people behind them a shedload of cash.

There is no credible medical evidence that they serve any purpose whatsoever.

Poulter doesnt where them because they work, he wears them because someone has given him a nice wedge to wear them.

Well i am a believer in them anyway... even if it just makes you think they work and you believ that its making a difference its doing its job... im not a scientist so i cant go into the workings of it but i hear Nike are looking to fit them into the Dry Fit clothing range so there must be something in it!!!!

That is a rather sad statement, sort of like saying you don't mind being taken as a mug so long as you don't know you are being taken for one.

You don't have to be a scientist to go into the workings, because there is no science behind them, just testimonials from previous gullible buyers and people paid to endorse them.

I don't think that is exactly what he is saying.

If something has a placebo effect, if the effect is what you want, surely that something is useful to you?

If you believe the band causes better balance, and so therefore your body performs better, whether or not the band is directly causing the performance increase, surely that's a good thing?

The placebo effect is not an effect you knowingly take something for, because by definition it is an effect not attributable to any genuine effect of the product. Its importance is as an effect that occurs in a proportion of a population and needs to be accounted for in any clinical study. In clinical practice, it is more complicated that just a psychosomatic effect.

It is wrong to encourage people to take stuff just because they are dumb/gullible enough, or have otherwise been misled to believe it works.

I did use a trionz bracelet for a long time and had much better sleeping patterns during that time. I can't be certain if that was coincidence but I definitely felt "better in myself" and wasn't as tired during my golf. Since I lost it about 6 weeks ago I'm start to sleep badly again and do feel more tired in general. Coincidence?

Absolutely a coincidence.

If they were pukka doctors would be prescribing their use in epic proportions.

Absolutely no feasible medical evidence to back up any of these things.
