Apologies if a bit self indulgent but thought some may find of interest,

Got back on Thursday from a four day coaching trip to the Algarve with Andy Carter and Chris Fletcher of ImproveMYGOLF. Was based at the Morgado resort where we played the two on site courses Morgado and Alamos and travelled about 30 minutes to play Salgados on the last day.

Andy and Chris did a 30 minute clinic each morning followed by another 90 minutes on the range/practice area where we could work on whatever we wanted with one of them always in close attendance to give plenty of help and advice where needed. We then played 18 holes in the afternoon with both of them playing or walking a number of holes with each group. They are really nice blokes and as well as the golfing side, played a full part in the post round and late night/early morning socialising.

They were never without their cameras so expected to see a few shots appear on their YouTube channel at some stage but wasn't prepared for what happened on Wednesday. We had a Ryder Cup style Team Carter v Team Fletcher match but as there were 18 of us there had to be one singles as well as the four fourball matches. I was drawn to play Andy in the singles match and was looking forward to a four hour playing lesson with a pro. In the morning Chris said that it was a bit unfair so he would play with me as well so I've now got a four hour playing lesson with two pros. When we got to the course I was a bit concerned to see them bring out the more heavy duty camera gear and when I asked Chris he casually mentioned that they were going to film a course vlog.

Without as much as a practice swing, there I am on the first tee being introduced to the viewers !. Was as nervous a first shot as I've had to hit and although conscious of the camera throughout (trying not to swear after a bad shot) it did get less nerve-wracking as the round progressed. I promised them I wouldn't give the result away so if anyone was interested in watching they will have to visit their channel. Video not uploaded yet but think we filmed it in three parts, we filmed every other hole and typically my better moments came on the "other" holes. Although I haven't seen any film yet, can I get in early and say that I have heard that the camera puts 10 lbs on you !

Awesome, thanks for the trip report. thinking about going on the Feb trip.

did you think it was value for money?

how was the hotel, all inclusive?

the hotel is ideal for golfers although you probably wouldn't stay there otherwise as a bit in the middle of nowhere and a 20/30 drive to beaches etc. the rooms are in low level blocks on the edge of the Morgado course and you literally fall out of bed onto the first tee and practice area. rooms were large and modern, breakfast and dinner were buffet style with plenty of choices and lots of it. drink was included from 5pm till midnight and like all all-inclusive places there was a list of what it covered but Superbok on draft, decent red and white wine, spirits and Mojitos was sufficient for most people.

re value, I paid a bit more than the advertised price as I flew from Gatwick, extra legroom, single room supplement etc but I would say so and everyone else on the trip I spoke to enjoyed it. you can work out roughly yourself how much the flight, hotel, golf would cost, just then a matter of how much you would value the coaching aspect.

re February trip, think they said they have 12 already booked and I would think the other places will go fairly quickly once people watch all the videos they upload (not the one with me in !), think they are hoping to do another one similar time of year as well.

Great write up.

Have been watching the Portugal vlogs. Hadn't seen much of Carter since R&P left Trafford, but started watching after seeing him pop up again with Pete the other week. He's a comfortable screen presence, and both him and the other lad can play a bit.

Good to hear that they're not too famous to enjoy the company of the great unwashed.

Glad you enjoyed it mate. Sounds like a top trip. They seem like genuine lads and enjoy what they do. I'll watch out for the video !

they were wrong about the camera putting 10 lbs on you, it's more like 20 lbs !, if watching that doesn't get me on a diet and down the gym then nothing will.

the one I topped into water on the par 3, I was so nervous I didn't notice that the tee fell away and my feet were about a foot below the ball

Are you camera shy badge? Never heard you so quiet 😀

They'll be great to look back on, seeing if you can implement any of the tips they gave you 👍

I am signed up for the February trip. I will be flying in from Eindhoven in the Netherlands. I will have to fly a night earlier, since it was the only workable connection, which makes it a bit more expensive, but I am really looking forward to it already.

Watched the first part of the course vlog yesterday. You did a great job being on camera. I would have been so super nervous in your place.

I was in Salgados over half term at the resort the golf course was on. But I didn't get to play golf there  But I did sit next to Cliff Richard in a restaurant.

What was the course like? The crash in the pound against the euro meant it was a bit pricey for me.

No sightings of Cliff last Wednesday. Course was good but didn't blow me away. Water on almost every hole and with the wind blowing thought scoring would be low but most of us scored in the 30's stableford points wise. Greens were slower than Morgado where we were based. Par 5's were short but because of the water had to be played strategically as three shotters which frustrated the bigger hitters who would have fancied reaching most of them in two.

A few more holes on view here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgpEnVxFonk
