Hi all,
Friend of mine is 30 in 2 years and he wants a golf trip in Portugal. I know there's 100's of companies doing the breaks btu they only book your hotel so how hard can it be. He wants to stay on a golf resort with a bit of night life nearby. I've suggested looking at Albufeira, can anyone suggest a decent resort there with several courses attached?

Thanks

We stayed just outside Albuferia at the Sao Rafael Suite in early October. Its only an 8 euro cab ride into Albuferia and there is plenty to do there. We played the Salgados, Alamos and Morgardo. The Salgados was a nice course but was in truely awful condition. It was so bad we transfered our second game from there to the Alamos. The Morgardo and Alamos are on the same complex in the western Algarve. Both are relatively new but are great. We played the Alamos twice and it is slightly shorter than the Morgardo but is quite hilly and the distances between the greens and tees can be long in some places so take a buggy. The Morgardo is long and with the exception of two large lakes it is quite featureless on the front 9. The back nine holes however are beautiful. Very hilly and there are some lovely holes. The one thing you notice between the two courses is that the Morgardo's par 3's range from 180m-220m where as the Alamos par 3's are a lot shorter. The clubhouse is great as well and offer beautiful views over the 9th and 18th holes and the grass driving range. Buggys were 25-30 euros I think

I believe we booked through golfbreaks for the package which included 5 nights b+b and 4 rounds of golf. We sourced the flights ourselves through easyjet including taking our own clubs and booked two focus estates to get about in. The total cost was £416 pp.

If you go to Albuferia I recommend tres palmeres for something to eat. It has a great choice of steaks or fresh fish. Going the other way is Guia(sp) which is an old town who specialize in piri piri chicken. It is incredible and I recommend Ramires as a great place to eat but they only to piri piri so be warned.

Oh the local beer is bock and tbh I quite enjoyed it.

we went in September and used YourGolf Travel, they sorted absolutely everything for us. Stayed in Villamoura on the Harbour, think it was the Vilagal? We played 3 of the Oceanico courses, the Millennium (average), the Victoria (good) and the Old twice (awesome) and had transfers etc.

Villamoura itself is all around a harbour, loads of bars and restaurants and a casino and "clubs" for later action. Would well recommend it.

there's nothing wrong with bock, I did 5 days on it in ferragudo, there's also nothign wrong with the wine for less than £1 per bottle.

Cheers for the info

I would forget the Algarve and go to the Lisbon area instead. Cascais is great with excellent courses and offers significantly better value for money.

A group of us go to the Algarve every year because one of our party owns a place there, so it keeps the cost down. I agree the area is getting very, very expensive though, and we would look elsewhere if we weren't tied to it.

I cannot understand why the Portuguese haven't grasped the fact there's a major recession going on - especially since they are doing so much to contribute towards it.
