Great news to hear the announcement of the 2028 open at Lytham after such a long break.
Disappointing that Turnberry is still being left out under the guise of 'logistics' when its an anti-trump political decision.
Also that Muirfield will likely not be considered again until at least 2031 after renaissance has been confirmed until 2030 for the scottish open, and again under the guise of logistics but another political decision.
That brings us to the increasing rumours of portmarnock being considered as host in the near future.
I know its not the 'British' Open (despite what the americans say) and that the R&A do have strong ties with Irish golf through other events with GB&I partnerships like the Walker Cup/Curtis Cup, however, this seems to be another example of nihilism to chip away at long standing traditions in society leaching into sport for no other reason than to break them.
The UK is not short of venues and whilst Portmarnock is an excellent location so this is no reflection on that course, this is entirely unnecessary in my view.
no doubt any dissention to the idea will be met with accusations being far-right or anti-progressive. No!
