There's been the odd comment on TV and in the papers of Rory being a little under the weather, and not being able to produce his best form this week.

In last night's local paper was a brief column stating that he had had blood tests and first indications were that he is suffering from Dengue Fever, a disease brought on by a mossie bite.

So, all in all, a great score in Dubai. Just a pity he wasn't fit enough to chase for top spot.

Strange that he'd carry on with a potentially life threatening disease. People in Barbados get it and apparently it's pretty crippling as you get massive spasms and a super high fever... I doubt very much Rory would actually be able to walk if he had it.... but I'll probably be proven wrong and some new 'mild strain' has suddently been invented just for Rory

Hmmm I have to say I've found the "I'm really tired" and "poor Rory has had such a busy schedule and is so very tired" a tad irritating. Poor, poor baby  - he's a young, fit man living a great life so stop bleating.

Unless of course he genuinely has a terrible disease which he fought off to win last week and score pretty tidily this. From what I saw today his putter was the issue - perhaps a wee bit too heavy for the poor fatigued lad.

Or am I just being a cynic??

Remarks like yours have me shaking my head in disbelief.

Okay he is well looked after and doesn't exactly live in a tent when he's in town on tour but are you really telling me that jetting around the globe for 12 weeks, doing umpteen corporate events, tedious press conferences etc and not having the joys of you own home would not run you down?

Cut him some slack,I certainly can see why he's shattered and it says a lot about how good he is that he has managed to perform to such a high standard even when he is clearly knackered.

Life, for us all, is about choices. He has plenty so can't feel sorry for him. He is a great golfer and needs to consider his schedule if he can't handle what he's chosen to do this year.

The thing is Dodger, Rory has the ability to feast at golf's top table for the next ten years or so. If his new management company are really going to look after him then they need to start right now and make sure he doesn't get put through the mill like that again. He's got to take a leaf from Tigers book and prepare to peak for the Majors. If he can do that then ....

:)

You WILL not see him doing that again,of that I am pretty sure and I bet he is pretty sure too.

Again,I'll ask, would 12 weeks on the road not tire you?

If not then you must be a very fit person.....if so then surely you can sympathise with him feel jaded....and I must have missed the him 'bleeting' about it.Yes,he has mentioned it but he has not been 'bleeting' about the fact he's fecked.

Well Luke had a few weeks off to do the New Daddy bit again........

Kind of agree with Amanda here. Rory's made his choices.
Jetting around in a Private Jet and not really having to do anything except what he loves doing doesn't sound like a hardship to me. It's what all the top golfers do - well except the Yanks as they don't have passports.

He played ranking events in weeks 37, 40, 41, 45 and 49. Not exactly gruelling..
Everything else was down to the Management Company scheduling Corporate events, Cash-Cow events and the like.
As DCB says, if Rory wants to be Top Dog he's got to handle his schedule better to prevent this "tiredness".

fully agree with Dodger here... I haven't heard him "bleating" about it at all. Ive heard other people making excuses for him.. If you look on twitter, he's been busy congratulating the world number 1 for a fantastic season. We should also remember that Rors probably wasn't gearing his season up for this tournament, he's probably worked out the best way to peak for the masters. this tournament would have been a bonus for him.. lets see how his 2012 season goes to see how his new commitments affect him...

...and his father passed away, is that not mentally and physically very draining? McIlroy is pampered like all the top guys, he played well and missed a few putts, that's golf......he didnt look knackered either...end of.

Probably so and doubt I'll ever get the chance to find out. Again it's a choice he made and has to live with the consequences. Perhaps bleating is too strong a term but he quite quickly at interview mentioned how really tired he was - all sounded a bit lame to me.

There are two forms of Dengue fever. I guess the one you allude to, the serious one, is the hemorrhagic version. Rory's version appears to be the lesser of the two.

So even knowing he had this he chose to challenge for that top spot, and credit to him for trying.

Alternatively, as some have done we can always belittle his efforts.

Personally, I'd prefer brown shoes with a white saddle and boa lacing.

I can sympathise with Rory, 12 weeks straight must be tiring. Flights, pro am, practice, fans, sponsors engagements and then 72 holes. Where he is lucky is that he does have a private plane. Imagine being a journeyman pro playing every comp he can get into to earn enough to earn the right to do it all again next year. No private jets there. Economy, hire car and travellodge/B&B. I have new respect for those guys. I hope Rory hasn't got Dengue fever and that he is back to his eletrifying self next year.

I agree, whilst he has a lifestyle people can dream of it doesn't stop you getting tired or ill.

It's easy to criticise his scheduling but life changed as did his schedule when he won at congressional, he is one of the most sought after golfers in the world now.

Have not heard many complaints from Rory about tiredness during his interviews, after saturdays round when quized about fatigue he said he couldn't blame it as he played poor front 9 but played well on the back 9.

It's the lie, it's the club, it's too windy, ive hurt my arm, I've got a fever. For an exceptionally gifted sports man, man up.
