Was at the range last night working on the stuff our Bob gave me at the weekend having a jolly old time with some good shots and some bad shots when I decided to rip a few 3 woods off the mat, and rip I did...until the 4th shot, where I ripped it and ripped the clubhead into the post behind me which has a light on protected by a metal cage. Metal Cage 1 - 0 My 3 wood. Luckily, it's still intact, but there's now a huge gash about 2 inches long on the crown where the paint work has been completed stripped away :(

At least the head didn't fall off (yet )

Oooohhhh, sair one matey :(. Is that the JPX that's taken a beating?
Was it just the crown that took the damage or do you think the head might yet come off?

Yep, the lovely blue finish on the JPX is no longer lovely or blue. It's just the crown I think. I hit a few more (after moving the mat 2 feet to the right! :D) just to make sure ;), but there's no rattling or anything. Luckily, I think the metal caging was quite soft as I dented it! If/when it breaks, I'll just replace like for like and luckily they can be had at very reasonable prices but hopefully it was just cosmetic. I just look at is it being "relic'd" like a lot of my guitars...Guitars are worth more all battered and stuff, maybe golf clubs are the same? :)

If looking down on a bit scratch gets to you, years ago I used a car touch up paint kit on my old T-Bubble, it was a terrible orange/bronze colour but still managed to get a match :) worked a treat as well :D

What has Bob got you working on this time Jon!?!?!

Had a lesson with him on Saturday - it's about a year since my last one - and he was happy with my progress. There's a whole thread on it somewhere. Hasn't got me changing anything, just small things to give me more consistence.

Umm the fact that his swing is too flat with his 3 Wood!!

Na Gutted Jon, that would have driven me nuts, I don't think I could play with the club any more with a gash on the crown. Would it be worth stripping it and having it repainted or something?

I have hit the wall/posts a few times but with no damage but I never really relax at the range with long clubs. I use the practice ground at AVGC if i need to stretch my swing.

Sorry for you buddy.

:D

It's not a huge deal really. If I was really upset about it, it would have ruined the rest of my session but it didn't. It's happened and there's not a lot I can do. Annoying? Yes, but It just gives the club character (or that's what I'm telling myself! :D)

It's my own fault for not moving the mat to begin with to be honest. (but I won't be using range bays with posts behind me any more! ;))

Don't worry about it! What you have to remember is that golf clubs are made to hit things and get dents and dings. I trod on my driver head wearing metal spikes over the winter and that now has a load of big scratches across it.

Any anyway do you want to be a golfer or just someone that owns a nice set of clubs ;)

Precisely. Everyone else is making a bigger deal of it. I only posted it because I'm bored at work and it was something "interesting" that happened last night.

I never use a bay with a pillar behind. Even if I know I can't possibly hit it, I still can't swing properly because I know it is there.

Could be worse, my mate borrowed a one day old driver off the scratch team captain which he smacked into a pillar and had to buy off him.

happened to me last year, was warming up with some 6i, took the driver out ans DONNNGGGGG nice big scratch and some slall chips in the back of the head, was not impressed,

Unlucky Az'

I recall a guy at a range I use dropped his spanking new 910f onto the concrete floor just off the matt. Made a right mess.

This is why, when time permits, I like to use grass ranges.

I did the same with my 5 wood a few weeks back. Bad timing at the range as it was a kids group lesson and they were driving me nutso. A huge "clang" as my 5 wood hit the pillars between the bays and it all went quiet. Luckily there was no damage done and I'm always really careful to move the mats as far over as I can. Damn things weigh a ton though!
