Long story short. Bought and played with some irons, sold them to a mate, he's used them for a while and has now broken nearly all of them (snapped at Hozel/ferrules). MacGregor 565 v-foil, had YS design stiff graphites. He's bought a new set, but something in me feels it would be good to try and save the old set.
Few options -
1) complete professional re-shaft....probably uneconomical
2) complete "amateur" (me) re-shaft......still going to be quite expensive.
3) buy a 2nd hand set of rubbish irons with decent shafts (TT/DG or similar) and pull them all out and stick them in the MacGregor heads.

Can steel shafts go in these (they did come either steel or graphite)? If so, can anyone think of a cheap-ish way to get them done. I could take them to anyone/anywhere and leave them for as long as it takes for them to get done in between other jobs.

He doesn't want me to give him his money back, but I'd happily either fix them up for him OR give him some cash for them and get them done and keep them for myself. They WERE a beautiful set, I'd hate to see them lost forever.

Any good idea please. Could anyone see themselves being able to help for a few dozen Pro-Vs or something in repayment?

You will be able to pick up a set of shafts on Ebay no problem at all.

I would stick with graphite as I would imagine that the heads will be weighted for graphite shafts, if not, your swing weights will be way out.

Firstly ensure that you know what the correct tip size is for the irons and watch ebay for any bargains. A local friendly pro may remove the old shafts for you at a decent price then you can re-shaft them easily enough with a bit of patience and care.

Don't forget that you will also need to buy grips as well and the process can then start to get costly. If you want to use the irons again then go for it, if not I would question the overall point to it.

Good luck.

depends how much you want to spend really

I've got 565's in Rifle 4.5, which was the alternative and Alchemy was doing sets of Rifles fitted fairly reasonably.

My mate got some cloned shafts and cloned Callaway(?) heads from a US website and made up a set for not a lot, and he's pretty useful, single figures anyway. I'll get the site from him, I have an idea the shafts were about £7 each.
