Please and thank you

I actually got stopped by an elderly lady this wk who asked “is that your son?”pointing down the street to where my son was playing.
My first thought was what has he done wrong.
When I said yes she said “he’s got lovely manners”.
I Was quite proud 😁

Thank you, especially standing there holding a door open is definitely a dying phrase, Most walk straight through with no tanks and no eye contact

I wish I had a penny every time that had happened.

Lost me rag in the City shop the other week with a rather rude woman whilst shopping with young Bradley Tash. She thought being gobby and rude was clever so she got it back in bucket fulls.

Stands out when it's not said, and stands out even more when it is said.

Thankyou for starting the thread Bob 😁

I think they are in decline, a pity as good manners cost nothing.
Another thing I find, when walking my dog, people approaching, steadfastly keeping their eyes firmly down ,to avoid contact.
I greet almost everyone I pass, I like contact with other people.

Agree a lot on this, I put it down to extreme arrogance/ignorance. I still keep doing it.....but I do find myself saying thank you loud enough for them to hear.

I'm also a big fan of a "you're welcome" when someone says thanks, my 4 year old uses it.

Only time I can remember holding a door open to someone who didn't bother to say thank you was at Sunningdale. No not a forumer this year:), but a couple of years ago to Hugh Grant. I might have muttered knob as he walked away.:)

Yesterday at the football, a nice lady came over and told my daughter she had dropped her glove. That would have been cold fingers during the game. We were also standing having a beer outside the ground, and a nice couple said they were just leaving would we like their seats. Good manners alive and kicking at a football ground.

Which is funny as I bumped into him at Sandown whilst horse racing, he held the door open for me. Very nice chap.

And yes, I did say thank you.
