As I'm getting on a bit these days I find that after a game my back really stiffens and cramps up, really painful. It isn't lower back pain it is up in the lat part halfway between the waist and shoulder. Normally after a bit of sleep I wake up and it is better until the next round then it is the same again. After last nights game though I'm in flipping agony, my back is in spasms of cramp and not only have I a full physical days work ahead with lots of heavy lifting I also have a 4 man team event on Sat and an away day on the Sun. This is a bit more pain than I am used to.
Funny thing back pain. Do you ever fully recover from it or do you just have to load up on painkillers and play through it?

Its called old age...

I load up with painkillers before I tee off, and sometimes take some halfway round... then finish off with Guinness. The day after a round is usually a day spent laid on the sofa chomping on painkillers...

Oh to be young again.

I started off my round yesterday with what I have just looked up to be a "Lumber Pain/Strain". Just consulted my wife who works at Lloyds chemist and some anti inflammatory along with a heat cream or patch has been advised. Its only one side which is very common to whether you are right or left handed, it will normally affect that particular side as it gets more use/strain than the weaker side and will usually be a strained or torn tissue or muscle.

I'm not a fan of taking pain killers as a first remedy as I feel it only masks a underlying problem that could be getting worse and could, with the right remedy, be repaired or eased if identified and tackled correctly.

It may be something that is torn and isn't getting time to recover and will just keep tearing easily as it won't be as strong as it should be?

I'd seek advice properly, it could be a week off work, no heavy lifting but lots of exercise (golf) required

I've been getting an "ache" in my lower back after a round these days. Only a minor ache and some small stiffness the next morning but that's all.

I'm putting it down to my body getting used to the changes my pro has me working on (... Better hip turn to start the down swing).

As an aside, I've never really suffered with back trouble. A few twinges infrequently that were very painful. If you suffer constantly with back issues, you have my sympathy.

I've been in the same boat, after some quite major swing changes, my backed ached like hell after every session at the DR and ached, but not as bad after a round of golf. Now I've got used to the new swing my back doesn't ache anymore.

Mind you I do find that some back strengthening exercises do help as well.

The only pain I get during a round is my left knee, after a while, especially walking down hill any pressure on the knee is excrutiating. I think its to do with the illiotibial band rubbing and becoming inflamed, some leg exercises are supposed to help.
