Playing the Belfry

You are wrong. It is in its best condition now and will remain so for a month or so yet.

There's a bit of water in places you might not be able to see it and the slopes can take the ball towards it. Other than that, there's no tricks.

I played it last month for the first time in over 15 years. I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised by the growth. Enjoyed it. Generally it's too busy a place for my liking. Stacks of people about, 3 courses, gyms, hotel guests. The bar was heaving and you can end up parking miles from the 1st tee.

Glad you enjoyed it. I’ve never been but a lot of my mates have - despite suggestions elsewhere that there are only a few iconic holes and the rest is rather bland, they all seem to have loved it.

It was enjoyable but it’s level of brutality does take the edge off it as an amateur.
Some of the greens are almost the size of a 5 a side footy pitch. There are lots of undulations and subtlety to the greens but boy are they true and quick without being silly quick.
Many of the bunkers are bigger than the greens at my club. The first cut is ok, but the second cut which is about 4 feet from the fairway is very lush and about 4 inch long, and the ball just sinks to the bottom.
You need to know your carry yardages, the water appears all too often. I wish I had used my laser instead of just going on my eye judgement or my partners using the yardage book.
The only thing they don’t have is prisms on the pins.
I would go back again, but I would appreciate that being on the fairway was so much more important and also take a little more time to look round the dog legs to see which way the fairway went and how much the second cut came in.
They say the round should take 4 hrs 50. We took exactly that, and considering we had many balls lost and had never played it before we thought we did ok.
If the opportunity ever comes up, grab it.

Is your own club at altitude?

Birdie on 10 is a great one to tick off the bucket list.

Nope, our 150 posts are to the middle of the greens as well. I think the difference is that you needed to carry to the green and hold it. The course booklet didnt seam to marry up with the on course markers though. Still fun though to play somewhere I watched on TV when you could for free.
I cant remember seeing a 250yd marker on a golf course before either :LOL:
