Players complain to union about Paolo

I was at the Marriott in Waltham Abbey for a wedding and Villa were there as they were playing the spuds on Sunday, they were unruly in the leisure centre and the restaurant and all in the presence of MoN who didn't do squat.

I think there's definitely something in that, can't just be coincidence, can it?

I don't know why you keep going on about "airing our dirty linen in public", PdC hasn't, he has simply put fines and bans in place and all this only came to light after the players complained to the union. I think PdC has acted properly since his appointment at Sunderland.

I don't think I was "going on about it" - I think I mentioned it once.

I also think he has got it completely right since he came here. Most of the people up here just want us in the headlines for the right reasons going forward - and on the back pages rather than the front.

Sorry, I'm going on about it........

As much as it pains me to say it about a Sunderland manager, its about time someone like PdC kicked the players backsides. Too many managers fanny about at the risk of upsetting players. The only time this work is when you want to keep your "star" players. Sunderland don't have any and there is only one players I would keep and even he is on loan, Rose.

PdC is doing what every manager in the land, football or otherwise should do. You come into work unable to do the job, you get fined or sacked. You publicly make an idiot of yourself, given your high profile and you represent the club, you get fined. I've sacked 3 people this year for turning up late or still drunk.

If footballers want to make a public idiot of themselves, football isnt for them and they should crawl into a job which doesn't put them into the limelight.

Football should have more managers with the same footballing principals as PdC and if players don't already, their contracts should have a public behaviour section which is highlighted or added

I agree entirely.

I would think that what PdC has done is none worse than some top managers have done like Fergie, Wenger or Jose but you don't get those players running to the union do you, they wouldn't dare as to put those kind of high profile managers in the dock would be career suicide. Unfortunately Sunderland doesn't carry the same weight so for me I would be looking for board backing and buying a big broom and get those behind running to the union swept out!

If any of their fines or bans are rescinded or compensated, it makes the managers job untenable.

I applaud Di Canio for his stance.

Any chance fines and bans can be dished out for play acting and rolling around like they have been shot after a tickle tackle too?

Oh and also for surrounding refs and........jesus I could go on and on!!

Hammer them and bring them into line, bunch of overpaid people who think they are above many things.

Oh and also for surrounding refs .

They brought something in some years ago similar to Rugby where if you answered back or surrounded the ref, he marched another 10 yards forward. Never heard anything about it being dropped so, why don't ref's use it?

Everyone is different how they manage and present themselves and its only results and players showing commitment on & off the pitch towards your club (employer) that should count, and he certainly turned that around very quickly so the board need to back him or they'll go backwards again! You cannot have player rule whether unions are involved or not.

I think the bloke needs a break and should be judged on results and players attitudes alone at Sunderland, weed the trouble makers out and start a fresh ready for next season.

Well said fish.

Regarding the 10 yard rule for dissent, where they went wrong is it also had to be followed up with a booking INSTEAD of a booking. Most refs didn't want to book, potentially send a player off for this so it rarely happened. It's a good rule, but it shouldn't have been as well as a booking, or the refs would have done it more.

I am on Di Canio's side. Run the club properly and if the players don't like it then find another club. After the season they had I think he has every right to ensure they are pulling their weight. I heard each player is expected to sign 20 pieces of kit on a Friday for charity and they aren't happy doing that. Sums it up.

Seriously? They definately need a kicking. Supporters pay ALOT of hard earned money to go and watch their team and if they are moaning about something so little which can do so much for people that's just not on

Fully behind PdiC on this stance and more should follow suit IMO. Players are just employees of a club between working hours, by virtue of the massive sums and public profile they and the club have it makes them ambassadors for their clubs in public view. So if they act like spoilt little rich kids them treat them as such by dining & banning them.

Be happy to have PdiC morals and ethics in our dressing room to ensure players put club before their swag lifestyles.
