At the moment, I am unable to practice as often as I like and the frequency with which I am able to play a full 18 is far below where I would like it to be on account of other commitments. Come mid-June work should begin to ease off, allowing me out more often in the light evenings. What I wanted to get a sense of is, without saying "as often as possible", how frequently you head to the driving range and/or the course.

Are you at the driving range most nights and on the course most weekends? :fore:

Unfortunately I have been a right slacker with practice. I play every Sunday and maybe 1 range session a week.

Now I have set myself a new target for my h.c and a plan for improvement so will be doing 2 nights at the range, 2 evenings at the course doing short game and a few holes + my Sunday round to put it into play over 18 holes.

This may change week to week due to work/family but minimum 1 range session and 1 short game otherwise I know I wont improve just by playing!

I think anyone with a family and commitments is going to struggle to get a couple of hours a week in.....
I try get to the range when the kids go to bed and at least i have a small bit of time spent with them when i get home from work which keeps everyone happy......

This year though as i finish work on fridays at 4 o clock im going to make a conscious effort to get to the club practice area and spent at least 3 hours up there.....I play at the weekends every week just one of the days but at least ill have some constructive practice this year and try knock some shots off the handicap....

At the moment I'm just playing weekends, try to play in both club competitions on the Saturday & Sunday. Trouble is I'm just playing full 18 hole rounds of golf. Not actually doing proper practice or working on specific areas. A bit of practice midweek would probably help me a lot.

I usually go to the range once a week. I usually play a round Tuesday after work and on Saturday in the club competitions. I go to the course on most Sundays when ive not got anything special planned to practice on course on my own.

All I do is practice, at the range 2-3 times a week, 1 session of mid irons to driver, one session of short irons and wedges and one session of putting, chipping and pitching.

It al came together when I shot 88 today! I left a lot out there but my shonky iron swing was made up for by my razer sharp putting and chipping :)

It was one hell of a muddy course but the greens were in great condition!

I prob have 1 range sessions but I find the best way to practice is getting on the course I play 9 holes I prob do that 2 times a week then play in medal at the weekends or cups. But say I have a problem I will use the range to workout why and how to cure the problem

on my days off i usually get to the club about 8/9 and spend at least an hour or the range maybe two then head to the putting green for some chipping and putting, then out to the course for at least 10 holes. im on holiday this week so all of my days are going to be spent playing golf just cos i can. the only day ill not get any practice in is thursday cos im playing the glen with my mate. need to work out what im going to do practice wise this week.

I am trying to up my game intensively over the next six weeks in order to get myself to a match-playing standard by mid-June and trying to work out what frequency of practice would be beneficial. At the moment I am in a lesson every fortnight and then working through what I have learnt over the course of 4-5 90-ball buckets at the driving range. Not being a club member, I am only able to get on the municipal occasionally and it certainly wouldn't be easy to use the facility just to practice my short game.

When at the range, what is your modus operandi? Do you tend just to get the balls and play a number of each type of shot or do you utilise drills?

About 3 years back I was on the practice ground most nights trying to ingrain the ideal swing. All I did was get stale and reinforce bad habits. Since then I tend to stick to playing three nights a week, and then hitting the short game area and the putting green on the other two weekday nights and hone the scoring zone. Works much better for me
