Personally I practice more than I play.

I'm down the range 3 times a week and I'll play a round every Saturday.

What do you guys prefer to do?

The absolute opposite.

Never, and I really do mean never, practice!

Any chance I get to have some "golf time" I want to go and play. Even if it's just a few holes I much prefer doing that.

Standing at the practice ground would bore me to tears I'm afraid.

If I did have time or inclination I would practice short game as I think it would be easier to hold your interest for longer doing that.

When I was a member of a club it was a hearty portion of both. So about 50/50.

2-3 hours practice 2/3 times a week, 9 holes once a week in place of a practice (light dependent) and 9 or 18 on each weekend day.

Now I am not a member I am planning to be at the range 2/3 times a week and play 9 or 18 holes at pubic courses one or two times a month.

I practiced loads and my handicap dropped like a stone and got to single figures pretty quick.

Now at 6 and practice not so much......now my handicap has stalled .

Our practice area has 3 greens, 2 bunkers and I can lose 2 or 3 hours no probs messing about.

Perv. You don't do smooth then?

I'm about 50/50 but often go with the intention to play without booking and if no times then will sadly practise and feel all the better for it afterwards. Practise can be a funny thing as you don't feel like it's making any difference or there are no signs of it being worthwhile until you go and play a round.

I'll even practise daft and pointless wedge shots into a bucket in the back garden but the feel you get for the club and how you can get the ball jumping up quickly or slowly is like gold when in a bunker or greenside rough.

Definitely practice more at the moment but need to start getting out on the course more to be honest. I do a lot of short game practise which will hopefully help. Just joined a club and mates will start playing again soon (fair weather players) which will help me get on the course more.

More practise than playing at the moment. For a couple of reasons. !, I have a large park over the road. So any spare time, just pop over and practise the 150yd shots. 2. only just back to golf this last year after injury. So need to develop and groove a swing. Ready for the coming season at my new club. So I don't look to much of a Pratt. In the summer expect it to be 50/50.

There is a football field across the road that I could utilise, only problem is I clear it with my PW and lose balls in thick grass at either end of it!
Silly question perhaps, but are airflow(wiffle) balls worth buying in this instance? Would save me a half hour drive to the range!

in summer i go to our practice area 3 times a week for about 2 hours a time and play 18 holes on thursdays this gets me sorted for the comp on sat/sun,in winter just hit the range and the gym as i cant stand being cold and wet.

im mostly play, not that many faciltites near me for practising, id give my left leg for a practice green and a hundred yards of fairway :(

Practice more at the minute.

I play 18 holes once a week and have 2 range sessions. As summer creeps in It'll go to 18 holes. 9 holes (practice) and 2 range sessions per week.

Practice far more than I play.

Its realistically the only way to get better.

In percentage of time practiced on rough of the game I would say:

Long Game - 20%
Short Game - 35%
Putting - 45%

Ash!!

This time of year is definitely practice more than I play. In the spring it'll be about 60/40 towards practice but focussed mainly on the short game. Once the season kicks off it goes to about 70/30 towards playing

as Homer points out this is going to be somewhat skewed given the time of year.

there's also the question of what contitutes practice - 10 warm up balls, 50, 200, 1000 a session? (whilst the latter may seem high it's easily achieved within the time of a single 18 holes :)

Its probably 50/50 for me at the moment but any practice I do is on the course, play 2 balls off the tee, then a few approaches from different yardages, then throw a few balls around the green, into bunkers etc.
I really dont like driving ranges and see no point in getting 50 balls and hitting short wedge shots from mats!
