Does anyone play 9 holes at a municipal course as a warm up and then go and play a comp at your own course ? Obviously with similar greens if poss

if only

I will add, played FoA on Friday and took full advantage of the practice facilities which were superb. Wish my club had similar. It helped with the bunker shots I had and also felt a lot better on 1st tee and spanked my 3 wood straight up the middle :)

Usually just swing a few in the nets and a quick putt the duff my 1st tee shot

When I played at Nairn GC I often hit some balls on the practise ground, nine holes on the Newton course, a wee refreshment, spent 10 minutes on the putting green and then onto the first tee ready to attack the championship course.

I always played crap!!

Run onto the first tee - No Probs!

As Bob asks 'Is the problem between the ears?'

No I don't play before a comp. I am coming to the same conclusion about practicing too.

If I am smoking it, then it builds unreal expectations of par golf.

If I am not smoking it, I feel I will struggle to shoot buffer, let alone better.

If I don't swing a club at all before playing, then I can take it as it comes, and see how I go. For me, this is becoming the best option.

And I get more time to eat breakfast, or drink beer before I play. Win win I think.

Nope, never played 9 before a medal. I used to hit 30 balls at the driving range, but used to worry what was going to happen on the first tee as I was spraying them all over the range.

A few stretches, bit of time on the putting green seems to bring better results for me.

ive been hitting the range pre game for 50 balls to warm up, 10 6 irons working on lesson drills, 10 4irons, 10 wedges, then ill play a virtual first 6 holes so i get the feel of different shots... seems to be working great at the moment too...

Sunday im playing a very tight track around here that i know well, on my way to pick my mate up i will be stopping at the range and continuing my current warm up routine to see if i can shoot well around there.

No. Never even considered it. I prefer a nice build up hitting some balls and a few bunker shots, chips and putts. Why play 9 holes and put so many swing thoughts and gremlins in your mind when 4 holes into the round can have the same effect

I'm really surprised more people dont do this.
I often hear and read about people not getting warmed up until half way through the front 9.
If I could, I always tried to play a few holes before a comp

it was knightswood 9 hole GC I played, won the knightswood 800 trophy as a lad, ahhh memories, now I only play hard long tough courses, Bah!

I have to agree with Bob, given the chance I would do it. Never one for hitting balls on a range etc but a few holes (maybe not as many as 9) would seem like a good way of getting going. Would rather practice in real situations.

Problem is, I play first thing in the morning so would have no chance of finding an extra couple of hours to go to another course, play 9 holes then head back to my course for a comp.

Yep, same for me.

Plus 9 holes at a muni in Edinburgh is £13. If you play 20 comps a year that's adding another £250 odd on top of my yearly subs. I certainly can't afford that.

A gentle warm up at the practice ground is the only real option for me, but on a medal day it's normally heaving.
