Do you think that the British Government should pay for implants to be removed or replaced?

For cosmetic reasons due to illness or injury, carried out by the NHS, I say yes.

For cosmetic reasons due to a female wanting bigger breasts, I say, why the heck should I pay? If they paid for plastic surgery via a credit card does that cover a faulty breast implant? What responsibility does the surgeon have? But why should I pay for someone's boob job to be repeated?

Who cares?

If the implants burst then the NHS will have a bigger problem dealing with that so it would be cheaper in the long run to replace whats needed

We’re paying for the bankers…..we paid for the MPs to fill their boots……we pay for all the scroungers who always seem to manage fags booze and sky telly…...we pay for everyone moving about the so called eurozone……we pay for people to tell us if we eat better we’ll live longer…..we’ll be paying for this enquiry into the phone hacking and not one person will go to jail…..

Might as well pay for more tits.

Ok I hear what you say but surely if I have to pay for them surely I should get them on some sort of timeshare basis.

Tommo at his best again.

If they were fitted by the NHS then there is an argument that they should be replaced by NHS.
If they were fitted privately then it's an issue for them and their surgeon.
I assume that the company that made them have managed to escape paying compensation; most likely by the company going out of business and the owners retiring to Tahiti.

Didn't the French Government agree to pay for any replacements?

But then the French Government are a bunch of sillicone enhancements themselves

Chris

French Government have agreed to pay for French patients not any other countries. On BBC this morning they were discussing it and the expert seemed to be implying that the Clinincs that fitted them have a "duty of responsibilty", but who pays?

If any of these rupture and there is an urgent medical need to have them removed, the NHS should do so. This already happens with patients who have emergencies associated with all sorts of other private care.

But the NHS should not, in my opinion, pay for the routine removal in non-emergenecy cases. If patients have paid good money to have these done privately they should go back to the private provider concerned. Very very few of these would have been done for genuine medical reasons.

If they were originally fitted by the NHS then they should also replace them but if done privately then I think no.

Although - some women requiring reconstruction following breast cancer do choose to go privately so now I'm not so sure about my above sentence !

Perhaps the answer is to replace those implants that were "necessary" on the NHS and those for "vanity" are to be paid for or replaced FOC by the private hospital/surgeon...

Not an easy one.

No the tax payer should not pay if they were done for cosmetic / "cry crocodile tears to GP and get larger cans to improve self image" reasons.

However if done as post cancer reconstruction or post ravaged by child rearing then of course.

Incidentally, I have never seen a good pair. Natural bee stings or real floppy spaniels ears are better than any fake boobs! Can't understand why women want them. Unatural and unpleasant.

i woudl really like to expand and provide a voice (or hand?) of experience on Snelly's point here, based on my years of experience of natural and non-natural, but i think on a public intenet forum, it would prejudice my future family stability to do so ... ;)

Love it - so descriptive

The NHS is on it's knees! It wasn't designed for, and can't afford, these vanity obsessed procedures.

Gastric bands/stomach bypass - readjust your lifestyle and you won't need one! Eat less and exercise more - simple.
Boob jobs - reductions I can understand as massive boobs are a massive strain on the back and do impact daily life. Post cancer reconstruction is also a no brainer. But Chardonney from Romford wanting bigger knockers for her fledgling glamour career should be kicked into touch.

Penis extensions - the NHS have a ready made solution to this problem - there's a few on this 'ere forum that they can have... ;)

Did the NHS do some of these? For vanity or medical need?
I'm sure you understand where I'm going with this...........
