PIP Breast Implants, should the British public pay to have them removed/changed?

Think we all new it...

It would seem, from the news this morning, we [the hard working British taxpayer] will be footing the bill for the reversal of breast implant operations using PIP 'boobies'...

No issue, here, for those that needed implants for 'medical' reasons but really can't see why we have to dip into our pockets for those that had op for 'vanity' reasons...

I agree, but as I understand it, the NHS may remove the implants fitted by other clinics but will not replace them, and will charge the clinic if they are still trading - lets hope that they stand by this !

Chris

I understand it the same way Chris so do hope they get back any costs for implants provided by private clinics.

There was a smug plastics guy on the Beeb yesterday all preening about how HE had never used a PIP implant as he had questions about their quality. Oh what a jolly clever chap he was. He was then asked why his colleagues hadn't made the same decision and therefore should be held responsible but didn't even squirm and said "no, how could they possibly". Then asked how much it was to replace them he mentioned surgeon costs, gas-man etc etc and in the region of £16000 per patient - yeah right !!

Found myself shouting at the TV and acting JUST like my Dad

I understand the french government has agreed to pay to remove the PIP implants not replace them.
All implants have a rupture risk so anyone having them in should be well aware they may well need to come out again at some time.

No the public should not pay implants have a shelf life of 10 - 15 years anyway so anyone who has the implanted should have a plan B anyway, they chose to have them were not forced in anyway so they should have to sort out the mess they have gotten themselves into

Either that or the manufacturer should have to pick up the tab

As mentioned they are offering to place the implants private companies won't but they won't replace them. He many women do you think will have them removed but not replaced when they got a loan in the first place to get there chest enhanced. They won't be ale to afford it all again. I think there will be a few women who want them replacing but a lot of the "tarts" who get them done purely to look like something they aren't won't be able to afford the implants again.

My 2p

Why, has he had implants too ? :o

Moobs ? ;)

Silly :p

On a more serious note - my sister had implants and my niece as we come from a long line of bee sting types !! But, my mum died of breast cancer when I was just a babe so to mess about when there is a strong family history is crazy. I can't understand so many women having implants and messing with what nature gave them. One on the TV today was bemoaning that she had industrial grade silicone leaking into her lymph nodes but hey she took the chance that whatever silicone she had stuffed in her chest would leak...

For me, unless it's reconstruction, then best leave things as nature intended and not take the risk regardless.

Saw the same guy on the BBC Amanda, I have the same opinion of him. According to his figures £700,000,000 would be required to do the job, I cant help thinking the cosmetic surgeons are just trying to profit from the situation they helped to create, a little bit like the bankers!

I have a few spare tubes of silicone in the van. If anyone wants a free pump up I'm more than happy to bring along my gear. Drawboy, always happy to help out the ladies.

Of course the taxpayer shouldn't be paying for the vain women who just wanted an enhancement.
They should have the choice...pay for your own removal or replacement, or take your chances with what you've got.

That's what's wrong with the nhs. These bimbos are gonna get the expensive treatment to replace their airbags while a mates daughter's lying in a bed getting chemotherapy but can't have a tv to watch as they are cutting the electricity costs
