After using mainly mizuno woods and taylormade fairways for quite some time I recently bought a Ping G10 driver which I love, apart from the headcover. Don't get me wrong it is a nice colour and shape but where is the sock bit to protect the shaft from bag rub? I think the cover is cack how about it Ping owners?

I too hate the Ping headcovers. About as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.
I purchased a set of "sock" headcovers when I played at St George's Hill earlier this year and these do the trick. Bloody expensive though. Saw them in the pro shop window at £14.99 thought that was for a set of three. Found out it was EACH!! Too embarrassed not to buy them after getting the guy to dig out a set of three in the colour I wanted.

Thanks for the huge information, actually I don't know about this. Thanks for add some more useful stuff in my mind vocabulary about ping headcovers

The shaft only gets bag rub if you rest your right hand on the clubs as you walk. The extra weight rubs the shaft.

So it's a trade off between shaft rub and head knocking then?

Matron. Time for my medication please. :D :D

Ditto Nike, Titleist, TM and any other modern head cover. The clue is in the term 'head cover'. It does what it says on the box.

They expect the bag to be padded these days.

I've had my G10 in a Ping or Powakaddy bag for 17 months now and there is no bag rub on the shaft.

Thats because there is no abnormal weight/pessure being put on the head unlike walking with your hand resting on the heads.
I agree totally. The Ping is a carry bag, but I don't generally rest my arms on the driver heads.

My G5 Aldila shaft has rubbed as well (on my Powakaddy cart bag), but what the hell does it matter anyway? It's only a bit of paint - hardly likely to affect the swingweight methinks ;)

Why not just put some sellotape around the shaft to stop the paint rubbing off :)

The trouble I have with this Bob, is visually you make the club look awful, and all your doing is keeping it in great nick for the person you sell it to. Bit like the people that put seat covers in their car. All their doing is keeping the seats nice for the next person, and not enjoying them themselves.

I've got a Ping G5 with the pro launch red shaft which is black near the head.
I have put some black electrical tape on the area and you wouldn't see it unless you looked closely. It doesnt look awful at all and a lot cheaper than having to buy a new bag.
:)

I do know a guy who has had his new driver for about 6 months and still has tape around the head and face so that when he sells it, it will look like new. Now that's crazy

So, extrapolating this, you shouldn't use condoms on the basis that there's no incentive to keep her nice for the next person? :D
