Following the recent success of Ping players, the launch of new clubs and Smiffy getting his to work, there is a demo day at Sand Martins in Wokingham from 10-2. Not sure if it is for members only but if you are in the area it might be worth having a look. I'm playing the monthly stableford at 8.20 and will be zooming over straight after to see what they have on offer.

I am really tempted by the I15's. I was when I got the R9's and in hindsight should have gone down the Ping route. I love my TP's but I'm keen to see if they have any of the new ranges available to try and to see if the I15's really are "the ones" I've been looking for

How will you know if 'they' are the ones you are looking for, when some one else (TM?) will have something new out soon.

Why not stick with what you have for a minimum of 5 years. See what familiarity can do for your game.

Constantly looing for the new thing can't be good.

I see where you are coming from. It's just that I have regretted not picking up on the I15's when they first cam out instead of going for the R9's and so there is a bit of the "what can I really do with them" still nagging away. That and I want to do what most of us do and try out the latest gear if they have the new models there

Your probably right murph, but it is fun looking and teasing yourself.

Homer, give your bag to your pro and ask him to hit a couple of shots with each club, no warmup shots etc then try to justify another set of irons.
I went for my irons because I knew they were great quality and ultimately if I had a bad round with them, it wasn't the clubs' fault.
Noone nor nothing else can be to blame.

I think a lot of people confuse bad shots with bad judgement though, ball is in the semi rough, ball above feet for instance, average handicapper won't make much in the way of allowances for club twist, wind, stance, wet or dry ground etc, take one club short and try to hammer it only to miss the green 10 yards right outside the bunker then blame the club lol. THEN, assess the lie to be buried in rough, pull out the 60 degree plus wedge and proceed to duff it into the bunker and run up silly needless scores. But honest, it was the irons fault!!
:p

Have to be honest and say its more the opportunity to see the new Ping range and give them a whack that I'm going for although I do think I could do some serious scoring with the I15's. With so many Ping members on here there must be something to it!!! I only tried the I15's on a range so the opportunity to hit off grass in various specs should be very interesting

But that is just starting off on the slippery slope to buying another new set.

Then another new set comes out, and you try them....

As we all know, new gear plays better than old gear, for at least a week or so, then old habits creep back, and the new gear is no good. The only reason new kit works better is because you concentrate more.

If you never try stuff, then it won't worry you. Only last year your R9s were 'the ones', then they were superceded by the TPs, which were 'the ones', now it's maybe a set of i15s, what ever next.

Surely you could do with not putting temptation in your way if your job is at risk? Money in the bank?

The R9's were an impulse buy and I've regularly said on here they were a mistake. The TP's only came about by accident and for a stupid price and so were worth the gamble. My preference had always been the I15's and I'd hit them great everytime I took them out for a demo. It's not a slippery slope and what is wrong with a bit a window shopping anyway. Thanks for the concern about my fiscal arrangements but I think I've got that covered

Good. Glad to hear that. Always worry when redundancys come round.

I just have yet to see anyone who buys new kit actually make any difference to their game. While most who are steady players, keep the same kit. There must be something in it.
