When we got to Tyneside, Bill took all our photos of our first drives. He sent them to us later that day. We were sat in the olde ship in Seahouses when they came through. The winner of the comp was ecstatic with his. A PP was gutted coz he is leaning back, which is why he hits it high and miles. Me I am as flat footed as can be and all armsy. But a PP was devastated coz he finishes like he is hitting a baseball or tennis ball, which we have been telling him that for ages. He never shut up about it. So much so he consciously now trys to finish with a higher swing. Anyone else seen there swing and thought "oh Eck".

I'm pretty new to golf and only been playing a matter of weeks. I downloaded an app called hudl technique, you can video your shots and then play them back at full speed, 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 speed. TBH I dont know what a good swing should properly look like, but I can watch each shot and can compare the good to the slices :)

Mine looks like an octopus putting on sweater in a phone box. Definitely an after the 9pm watershed movie.

Regardless of the swings the Olde Ship is a great pub!
Happened to film a swing on holiday where I absolutely nailed a drive and was really pleased with what I saw.... Until I compared it to Rory in slow-mo. No further comment needed.

Ive filmed my swing lots over the past few years.

I couldnt really afford lessons a few years ago and have a basic idea about what I'm looking at. I could tell my swing was too flat and around my body, which is what made me hit the ball low.

Few changes with the right drills and hey presto, its now more upright and I hit the ball higher and strike the ball better.

Had a lesson last week and the pro filmed me. Interesting to see what your doing every now and then

Just started. Used my iPhone down the range and was surprised at what I saw. Some really obvious mistakes and changes. Downloaded the hudl technique app to assess and analyse the swing...

Recommend everyone to film the swing, learn so much from seeing it

Yes I do all the time. It's great for checking that ur working on the right things. When I first done it I was a bit shocked as to how long my backswing is. But now I'm used to seeing it and it is what I expect.

Just watch you don't get too hung up on getting the perfect position etc. I've fallen into this issue the last month or so and look up articles and videos on swing thoughts daily, and it has just ruined my game, shot 108 yesterday in the medal. I have now deleted all my videos and not looking at any more instructional stuff. Gona book a lesson and only work on those things. This week will be easy to do it as I'm down at wentworth so limited access to the computer.

.

That's the drawback of it, you're tempted to try and fix everything.
If you don't know what to change, in what order and what to leave alone you could get in a right mess.
Having said that, its great for checking whats real and feel

Yes it certainly is Bob, gets to the point where you have too many thoughts running through your head and you don't know what's going to happen.

When I go for my next lesson I'm gona get my pro to video what he considers a good swing of mine from the lesson and use that as a reference swing to go back to when I'm struggling.

I played last weekend and found that my iphone does a great job in slo-mo mode to capture swings. My brother was very happy to have his swing filmed, but I resisted having my done as I was striking the ball pretty well.

I filmed it last year when I did my travel vlogs for the trip to Lytham. I then worked very hard on changing a lot of the issues I saw with it (swaying, casting ... stuff like that) and I was really convinced it had gotten so much better. Then I received a video that our pros had filmed during my golf trip to Spain this spring and I was quite disgusted to see that my swing still looks exactly the same. It's a bit maddening, actually. I probably should take the camera to the range and film my swing there, but it feels so awkward to do that. Plus I find it tricky to set the phone or my tablet (which are the two best cameras I have for the job) up in a way that actually films my swing and not just blades of grass or clouds in the sky or half of my backside or something like that. It would be much eaiser if I just asked someone to film my swing for me, but again with the awkwardness.

Never! If I ever saw how ungainly I must look, the shame of it would probably lead to permanent retirement. As it is, I can imagine that I look like Rory and hope to never be proved wrong.

Having had many lessons all of which were video analysed, I know what is my bad shot, where it comes from, what instigates it and what I need to do to fix it, after a couple of range sessions I thought I had not totally fixed my problems but had made significant progress toward doing so.

I took my gopro up to the range and watched my swing, only to find I was still doing the bad start move, took a few more swings watched and found that I was improving, then something my teacher had said during a lesson sprung to mind " you have to feel you are over exaggerating the move you think you are doing, you won't be it will just feel that way", so I tried again, watched an lo and behold I was starting to get it right.

Without the camera I wouldn't have known if was still starting my swing with a forward (casting) rather than downward drop of the club, so the camera really helps.

Going to take it with me on the course tonight, capture my swing and have some fun with it around the tee box and green.

These slo-mo video features on phones are a blessing and a curse

Mate filmed me and while I knew it would be dreadful after watching it I couldn't believe just how unorthodox it is
(I'm using the term 'unorthodox' as it doesn't sound quite as derogatory as the reality)

My finishing weight distribution is a polar opposite to what it should be, everything's on my right leg. I should get extra points for just keeping it in play!
