This is fast approaching.

I have gone back to basics, had my first ever lessons, and been though 6 weeks of utter hell. I have spent about 20 hours practicing what I have been taught, I have shanked over 1000 golf balls (the hozel on my 6i is battered). I have even had the Charles berkely pause in my swing, so frightened to hit the ball, I couldn't swing.

I had another (3rd) lesson on Wednesday, and it is all starting to make sense. There is more to come, obviously, but my coach thinks if we can bed in Wednesday's stuff, then that will be it, pretty much. Probably another two lessons should do it. So end of feb, I should be set for the golfing season. At this point he says he will be happy, and it is up to me if I want to continue tinkering, but it will be tinkering, not rebuilding.

Practiced yesterday in the indoor nets, and was striking it ok (coach prefers me to shank it, as apparently this shows the changes are working?).

Went out on the course this afternoon, on my tod. First few holes not good, but by the eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth, blimey. Wow. Effortless swing, really easy, and striping it miles. In pretty claggy conditions too. I love this swing.

The new chipping off the front foot is coming on too.

Happy golfer.

As an aside, if I have completely rebuilt my swing, changing nearly everything in five (3 so far) lessons, what is taking homer so long?

Sounding good Murph.

Wish I would have started the lessons earlier, but now don't have the time to commit to the changes.

great news Chris...sounds promising......do you think it will improve your caddying skills?

No, that was a one off, and between you and me? The golfer whose bag I carried was pretty poor. Especially on the one hole, where he ignored my advise, and racked up a phone book.

well done, it's quite satisfying to see all the hard work dissapointment and effort now bearing fruit, long may it continue.

I'm pleased to hear that it's all coming together for you.

You do know that once you go down the murky, dank route of 'lessons' and 'tinkering' you'll be addicted!!

You'll be posting on here that you've just had your 2,010th lesson with your 20th coach, that you're striking the ball well but not getting any results on the course and that it's all about the enjoyment from here on in.. :D

Any thoughts on a blog to keep us all up to speed??

Glad its starting to come together murph but as for Homer, he's clearly a very complex character that's unable to follow simple instructions. :) ;)

Tiger's taken 18 months to bed in his new swing, excellent news that you are able to do it with a few buckets.

Seriously though, Glad it's working for you...... remind me not to stand to your right for a year or two! :ears:

it was stableford, if you recall i picked up, also one of the jobs of a caddy is supposed to remind you which holes you get shots on.....

player " I don't get a shot on this hole do I?
Caddy: "No..."
Player goes for hole thinking he has to hole it for a point, and no point being short so puts it 8 feet past.
Caddy: "you had a shot on that hole"
Player:

You had the strokesaver! You even checked it on the tee! It was nothing to do with me, and I wasn't the one who wanted to hit a hybrid out of 12" deep rough, under a tree.

.... nice one....could have been a 4 pointer though if it had come off........

Fancy taking that swing out to New Malton near Royston?....I got a Groupon ticket last night....2 players including hot drink and a bacon roll....£18 total.....

When?

Where the heck is Royston?

Had one 30 minute lesson so far - 20 of which was tuition and 5 minutes before and after to discuss what I wanted to work on (new teacher) and drills to practice. For an unbiased opinion ask Hawkeye or Bash how much better the ball striking is. I've put in a lot less range work due in part to a dickie back and committments with my mum. I'm very happy with where I am and 6 x 30 minutes sessions booked courtesy of HID for Chrimbo. One on the short game, one on bunkers and 4 x swing lessons and I'll be ready to rock too. I can learn without the need to shank too

Murph, they way you tell a story ALWAYS make me laugh. I hope the new swing works out well which it sounds like it is.

Chatting with my coach, the level of changes he is making with my game always, always, leads to shanking. In all his squad players, and also himself. He actually borrows a femoral club when he is making changes, as he doesn't like shanking his own set. It all comes from leading with the hozel. There's nit much left to hit with.

Funny but I was taught the sweetspot is on the middle of the clubface and not on the hosel. Funny what they teach in the PGA exams these days. I've given up looking for a textbook swing and I'm aiming low and one that repeats more than it doesn't. If I can get a short game to click and I have days like St Pierre regularly then I'll stick with that thank you

Sure. I was only joking with the op. As long as you are happy, who am I to judge?
