Par 3 teeing up

Do you think it acceptable to creat a lump in the turf in the tee box by hitting the grass with your club and teeing the ball on the raised lump rather than using a tee peg ? I prefer to use this method when playing shortish par 3s rather than using a peg. Gives me the feeling that the ball is just sitting slightly raised and perfect rather than teed up.

What is so hard about putting a tee in the ground so that the ball is sat just above the grass. Your greens staff must love you.

Yeah Ai just find a broken tee and hear enough make it flush... Can't do better than a perfect lie surely?

I never understand this. You can guarantee yourself 18 perfect lies per round, why wouldn't you?

Though idf it never worried big Jack I'm not sure why any amateur would think it made that much difference. Strikes me as one of these slight 'showy-offy' sort of things some players do to impress higher handicap PPs.

big jack didn't have a steep swing like an amateur. teeing a ball way up doesn't help when you are chopping way down on it. I should know! :thup:

I rarely use a tee on any par 3 unless the grass is slightly long .. most "short" par 3's say pw- 8 iron if the tee box is good il place it nicely and smack ,
think about it ,
you hit most of your pw-8 iron shots from fairways and cant use a tee , why change the way u hit a certain distance just because its a tee shot

As an amateur golfer I need all the help i can get why risk the chance taking too much turf which I do on the odd accasion on the fairway.

I'm sure I've seen Laura Davies tee off like that in the past, think it was with a wood though rather than an iron.

Not something I'd do but each to there own I suppose.

This, any mid to low iron shots just find a nice lie and slap it..... Unless there is no nice lie then a broken peg down as low as possible

I think it's acceptable, you'll most likely be taking a divot anyway, so don't see any problem with it.
I just prefer a tee for my own game.

I've used both methods, even in the same round.

I take a divot either way.

I do feel that my swing is slightly different when tee-ed up, so can adjust for yardage is necessary - easier for me than choking down/up.

I do both and have no conscious reason for it. Although thinking about it its the shorter irons (seems to be 7 and under) i play without a tee.
