Got to play a match tonight I know its 3/4 from the low man.

But am I right.

Me - 21
Partner - 15

Others A -22
Others B- 24

thus
My partner gives -
5 shots to others A
7 shots to others B

and I give them -

1 shot to others A
2 shots to Others B

Is this correct - or is it done another way?

In terms of team play - my partner needs to set the tone, any comments?

What is the order of play on the green? If I am the furtherest can I let my team mate finish his putt before I hit mine?

It is up to your team to decide who putts first between you, provided one of your team is furthest from the hole. So yes, your partner can tap in for a 4, to give you a run at a 3, if that's what you want to do.

As above, your partner gives the shots. You get 5, A gets 5 ad B gets 7.

I'm afraid the onus is on you to perform on the holes where your partner doesn't get a shot as effectively it's 2 against 1. If he's giving shots on the low indexes it's hard for him to figure.

Yes, if it's your teams turn to play you can go in any order. Usually to give the player further away a free putt if possible.

When I and my partner play, it doesn't matter who's furthest away if one of us has had a shot more.

Example, I'm 15' in 3 and my partner is 8' in 2. I'll always go first to try to get the 4 so my partner can have a good roll at the 3. If I miss he just treats his like a normal strokeplay putt.

The other thing is that I'm much more confident on shorter putts than he is, so if we both have a shortish putt for the same score he will always go first which lessens the pressure because I still have a chance if he misses.

I've never figured out whether it matters if the better player goes first or second off the tee though, any thoughts?

When I play a pairs comp, we usually go with the more consistent player playing second from the tee. If the first then hits a good shot, the second can take on the agressive shot.

I always used to go second with my 4ball partner, I thought it would give him the freedom to have a good old swing at one in the knowledge that i could plod one up after him if he hit it in the clag.

He never said anything to me but all year I noticed he was struggling to figure on the majority of holes. So this year I've gone first and usually get one in play somewhere down there, he has hit so many more good shots on the back of the knowledge that we already had one in good shape.

Coincidence?? Probably but it's working well for us so far this year. :D

Weren't you terrible on them the other day there?

That tells you all you need to know about my partners putting

I didn't mean I'm not confident, or don't hole many for that matter.
From 3 or 4', I reckon I make 7 out of 10 on average.

Under pressure, my partner would make 4 or 5. If he goes first knowing that I've got a 70% chance of holing mine, he feels more confident on his putt.
