What a difference 4 days makes. Played at Belton twice last weekend and whilst the greens were quite quick for the time of year they were not too scary. The Green Staff have been preparing the course for the first competition of the new season and they are frighteningly quick. My putting was pretty decent at the weekend, today putts were flying 3 or 4 feet past and I was not hitting them that hard. Certainly need to spend some time on the putting green before I tee off next week.

I have to say that I am very impressed. The course today was in the sort of condition you would expect in the middle of summer.

Was chatting to a gens keeper today, and they are already doing rain dances, they are desperate for rain! They have huge concerns over the coming months if it stays hot and dry... Greens were lightening quick for me today too, amazing it's still march!

We are OK at the moment but the reservoir on the course is only about half as full as it should be. Without substantial rain soon then we may be limited to watering tees and greens.

Still, at the moment the course is superb and a step up from the already decent condition at the weekend. Also noticing a difference with the greens on the new course. At my old club they were fast because they were hard with very short grass, at the new course they are quicker but remain slightly soft under foot and are receptive to a well struck ball (hit a great 8 iron from a bunker that landed past the pin and span back to within a couple of inches)

How are they compared to FoA the day we played Greg ? how did you find them ? i thought they were fast

About the same at the moment but will be quicker in a month or so. Belton at its best has the quickest greens that I have played on.

The course overall reminds me alot of forest of arden. Not as long but the layout and the numebr of deer wandering around make it feel a bit similar.

dont have that problem in Scotland, still soft underfoot and rain forecast this weekend.......bah!

Just been out on scarified greens!

Absolutely no use trying to putt properly, though they'll be fine by Wednesday. Amazing what a little heat and watering will do!

played a round at allerton g.c on tuesday as i was in liverpool for a week and could not believe how high the ball bounced on the rock hard fairways. id say they bounced 8 feet in the air at times. this would never happen in ireland. you guys need some water. its a serious problem you face.

Certainly wont happen here in Derry mate, more likely to go 8 feet under

Saying that our greens are starting to quicken up nicely although they not in the greatest nick after such a wet winter and people not repairing pitchmarks:angry:

P.S. Gary have you signed up for the Ballyliffen meet?

the greens were lightening on wed and thur in the heat. they were taking the breaks too which was nice to see after playing on holey sandy greens during the winter.

i havnt seen any info on the ballyliffen meet. whats the story with that?

just found that thread. i should be able to make at least a round of this. only played down there once. a right test of golf it is.

Get your name down on the thread then mate

You should try to make both rounds if you can and the apres golf entertainment on the saturday night(lots of beer just) as I say it was a great weekend last year and Brendy really does put himself out to organise it and deserves as many peeps as possible to attend.

Two great courses at a great price. Get your name down
