rule 10 which governs the order of play does not contain any reference to the set of tees in use but it simply states on the teeing ground. if we are using mixed groups the boys always play first the girls thereafter. i think that is within the rules because of the definition of the teeing ground but there is no rule that defines that the players from the backmost teeing grounds play first. also in stableford competitions i have not met any player who adheres to rule 32/1 which states the competitor with the lowest net score at a hole takes the honour at the next teeing ground. does anyone?
if i am to play a matchplay competition against a lady and lose the first hole. who tees up first at the 2nd hole?

In answer to the last question, the lady.

I have, in the past, had heated arguments with people who insist that, in a 3 ball stroke play competition, the player with the honour goes first until someone "wins the hole outright" whereupon he goes to the back. I even showed one member the rule in the book & he still insisted he was right. I've given up putting people right now, it doesn't really matter & people just think you're a smart arse.

Have tried and failed as Maninblack said ya just give up eventually

Yes, the Stableford one is a mystery. It's clear in the rules that lowest net get's the honour but I've never ever seen anyone play to this rule. We always go by gross score. Have also come across the "must win the hole outright to get the honour" interpretation too.....which is obviously wrong. End of the day there's no penalty for playing out of turn....just as well.

That was how we always played back in the '70s when I was growing up. No idea if that was in the Rules back then or not.

The rules nowadays are unambiguous on the order of play.

We just play ready golf - whoever is ready goes even at times in matchplay

Whenever I play Stableford, I always play to the "rule" that the guy with the highest number of points on the previous hole has the honour.
So somebody playing off scratch might have had had the honour on the previous hole but if he scores a 4 for 2 on the next hole and the 15 handicapper scores 4 for 3, the 15 handicapper takes over the honour.
Hope that makes sense?
But in your scenario, I would suggest the lady tee's off first.

I've only ever played in a few mixed comps, however the ones I have played in always have the gents tee off first. Not only for speed of play as some of the Red tee's could be and extra 60 or 70 yards away but also safety as the majority of Red tees are in a direct line, down the line of play from the whites/yellows.

Gota agree Phil , but had an incident with 2 members one day on our par 5 5th , one asked the other why he was waiting as he wouldnt hit the group ahead , he said Bill is still up as we both parred that hole , so we will play in turn , i tried to explain he had a shot on the 4th and 3 points i hadnt and had 2 points , so he in fact was up , but either way i was waiting so whoever likes bang on .. got the, its all stroke play so we play strokes ,

The other guy who had a 7 said il play so , to be told ya cant play out of turn .. watch me was the reply , i laughed but in honesty it ruined the rest of the round a bit as it was a tense round after that

Must admit ive never seen this , as long as im playing

The 'stableford rule' is there for the instance(s) when all players fail to score any stableford points. Hence the net score should be used.

@stableford rule.
in our competition there is usually one (sometimes 2 gents/ladies) price for the best gross points score hence you can argue that the player with the best gross score tees off first

Done a bit of research.....Seems the general "order of play" rule changed in 1984 from "Do the same as match play" to it's current form. So (golfers being really receptive to change etc) we should see this fully adopted soon! :)

As for Stableford, yes it's effectively the highest points and the wording has to avoid the concept of the "best pick-up" lol.

The trouble with the stableford points taking precedence, is that I know how many points I have scored, and how many I have entered to PP whose card i am doing,, but haven't a clue about the 3rd in our group.
So ready golf it is.
If you know it's your honour, step up.

I've only ever played mixed golf matches with M + F against M+F, so men always tee off first.
I do play social matchjplay against a male friend, but he always tees off first. Gives him time to take his second and third provisional.

If it was a proper singles match of M v F, I would expect to tee off first if I had won the hole, even although this might slow down play

Stand up and hit.

Order only important if:

a) match play where pressure can be applied and a shot out of turn can be recalled.
b) agreement to play out of order to give an advantage. e.g: I'll go first to give you an idea of yardage, or sure I'll give you an idea of the line.
