Open Crowds - Scotland vs England

Just to ensure accuracy....

It's MEN ONLY CLUB HCEG.

Ladies are welcome at Muirfield - though there used to be (and maybe still are, but that note has gone from Visitors info, so probably improved) limited changing facilities for Ladies.

For accuracy yes you are quite correct but you get my drift.

You start most of them.... and clearly this is a contentious topic....

Sorry - I'm not saying that English crowds create a better atmosphere than Scottish crowds - but IF they do - I'm wondering why that might be. I just came up with a few possibilities and I've no idea if anything I suggested is actually a possibility.

I'd guess the excitement levels in the competition is a much bigger influence on the atmosphere than the location. So if it is close and a British player (or even better a Scottish player in Scotland or an English player in England) is in contention then there will more than likely be a better atmosphere than if a relatively unknown US player is romping away with it.

They drink more beer?

That also depends on your definition of British.

Rory has nailed his tricolor firmly to the 'Irish' mast for the Olympics.

Therefore not British in my eyes. Technically I may be wrong but not morally.

Very good point, when Monty was hunting Tiger down at St Andrews in 2005 the atmosphere was awesome more so than Muirfield last year. Ultimately Monty came up short after almost catching him at the turn but it was a great day.

Rory is stuck between a rock and a hard place coming from where he does - he's gone out of his way to not be seen to back either side of the sectarian divide - his morals as far as his home country is concerned seem fine to me.

Great quote from Eamon Lynch in Golf magazine a couple of years ago about this very subject "Ah yes, but is he an Irish sportsman and role model or a British sportsman and role model? Like all stupid questions, it has no answer. But that doesn't stop stupid people from asking it."
