Oops - I ended up being the fool hitting my approach a player putting

Whether correct or not it's clear that Alex didn't know that as he said he was "forced to take relief as the bunker was full of water" and might otherwise not have.... which would also be a penalty for playing from GUR I believe???

:thup: Ta. I was wondering whether a notice in the clubhouse would make that so? I guess it would literally have to have the word 'compulsory' written on it else it's up to the player to decide.
 
I would think in this case it's unlikely to be a compulsory drop, as the GUR is not protecting young plants, wet concrete, etc. If some fool wanted to play from 3 ft of water, let them get on with it, as it won't damage the bunker.
 
Wow there are some bad vibes on here of late. Justone I am a little shocked at your attack, you have always come across as someone with balance. I wonder how we have got to a place where everyone seems to want to snipe at one another on this forum, it used to be a pretty friendly and supportive place to be.

The course was trashed, most bunkers full to the brim, the fairway was as long or longer than the rough, my best mate and I were playing for our fun and had given one another pretty much freedom to clean the ball and use our heads about course condition affected situations as the conditions were pretty unique. As it turns out I could have blobed the hole and won our friendly game. My partner would let me sleep with his wife if I asked nicely so I am pretty sure he would not be pulling a rule book for what was a stretch of the legs with some golf shots in the sun.


I would expect the kind of abuse that seems to be becoming common place on this forum on a computer game forum or something but I had it in my head that golfers were a friendly and respectful group who love to shaire there thoughts and experiences.

My "Yawn" comment was because we had already covered the bunker situations and not some damning slight on you that you had to defend with your last breath. If I want to make the rules up as I go along when with friends I will but I will be a little more careful about claiming my score as a fool would not learn from people with so much knowledge. Nice that it seems I was not in the "wrong" though... I did not know the state of play and did not care, nor would my buddy.

Lets try and be a little more friendly to one another please. This is a place I like to chat and dont want to feel that it is going to the dogs.

Its only a game...

Methinks you are a bit over-sensitive. I didn't detect any bad vibes - I thought the responses were largely light-hearted. If you're going to post a blow-by-blow account of an incident on the course involving yourself, you've got to expect a bit of friendly flak.

For "forced to take relief as the bunker was full of water", read "elected to take a penalty drop outside the bunker".

I guess that's hard to argue with but I do still feel that things are a little abrasive of late. I would think I am a little sensitive though ye.

Ye I left out that I had not called fore as I lost site of the ball in the greenery and did not even consider that it was going to make the green, I saw the guy turn and look down the fairway to start with and though he was just having a look around while his partner putted out, he then raised his arms and I then saw the ball next to him as I was advancing forward, only then I lifted my hand as a sorry. As I was walking off I started to rush and my buddy asked why, I wanted to catch him on the next tee but my buddy told me he had raised his hand back as if to say "ok".

So bad ball and no call :o it wont happen again for the sake of 2 mins...
