I bumped into Fundy in the carpark who was chatting to a member who I have seen around but don't know. Anyhow said my hello's to Steve and wished him luck in his match and headed to a packed first tee. When I tee'd off there must have been 15/18 people watching. Hit an ok drive into the par 5 bunker and upon reaching the hazard I was forced to take relief as the bunker was full of water. I dropped it behind the bunker and lasered the pin at the back of the green, 236 yards. I did not want to try and land a 3 wood on the upper tier so I pulled a hybrid. Game plan was land close to the front and pitch up to the hole. As I am not playing at the green I go ahead and play.

I flushed the shot, lovely pure stinging draw.... Landing yards from the guy from the carpark who was bent over checking his line.

I'm the fool, I did not take the wind into account. My guy turns and raises his arms in disgust, rightly so. I was mortified, I hate people who do thing like this, I was just not switched on. I did go on to knock a 25 foot putt stone dead for a tap in birdie but had to wait until the 7th tee to grovel my appology.

The guy could not have been nicer about it and asked how many weetabix I had had. Nice guy.

Reading this back I was just a total idiot for not waiting another 2 mins.

Sure it wasn't 3 shredded wheat for breakfast,

Ps was the bunker marked as GUR didn't think you could take relief outside a hazard even from casual water?

Two good things. Firstly you realised you made an error of judgement and apologised and secondly the guy took the apology in the manner it was intended. Mistakes happen and no-one was hurt so put it down to one of those things. Might have to grip down the shaft next time and choke back on it you gorilla!

There is no better and worse feeling at the same time than when that happens Al.....
That shot can either go one of 2 ways.....You get frustrated at the wait and top the shot....Or do exactly what you did hit a career best out of the screws and mill it....It happens us all.....

Happened me last year on our par 5 12th.....I thought the group in front were well out of range and subsequently caught my drive clean as a whistle only to find the group in front run out into the fairway a good distance beyond where i thought i would end up...

When i got to the ball it was surrounded by 6 tees......Once i caught up with them i had a few apologies to make.:mmm:

Its nice when you get people that don't want to rip your head off on the course, for making a wee mistake. Well done that fella. :)

Considering how busy the course was today there was fantastic sportsmanship in the groups I was among, lots of space and time given when needed. No one pushing or whatever. It was a real pleasure and we ended up chatting with this fella on a few tees.

I think the course moved faster from the mutual respect that seemed to be going on.

was it Shaun you nearly hit (tall left hander wearing shorts?) glad it didnt cause an issue :)

Was slow out there today, but then it was pretty rammed full, seems to be with it having been shut and then the sun coming out no one was too fussed they havent been able to cut the fairways lol. Normally Id go stir crazy at that pace but was just glad to be out there again, even if i did get beat :)

Ye thats the guy Steve, nice fella.

As far as moving my ball out of the bunker, it was 4" under water, I would guess that the club would have had it marked as GUR though it matters not as it was a knock with a friend and there was no way I was getting my sox wet to attempt to get a shot.

I did the same thing on Saturday lol just being devils advocate...

Great shot by the sound of it

On Saturday playing the friendly one of our opponents slightly sliced his ball over towards the 11th tee. Two of us made, what we thought were loud enough, fore calls as we hadn't seen anyone behind us for about 4 holes. Walking down the hole and two of the ladies pop their heads through the gap in the hedge screaming at me that we didn't call fore and the ball missed them by inches. I politely informed them we did shout and left it at that.

Funnily enough you don't have to get your 'sox' wet to take a penalty drop, just add 1 to your score

I thought it was only "old people" (i.e. our Seniors) who give themselves the authority to declare any part of the course which causes inconvenience Ground Under Repair - because it obviously should be GUR.

LOL:D

Apparently it's exciting to hit a lame drive into a bunker - YAWN
Take an illegal drop - YAWN
Hit a hybrid 230yds..... downwind - YAWN
Nearly hit someone with your ball - YAWN

and then post about your birdie prowess on the forum. I hope you apologised to your playing partner for cheating?

One part of your post WAS somewhat thought provoking though........

I hate people who do thing like this

As it happens, and I know I will get the avalanche of "they cant do that" but on the board as you come inot the club yesterday, under course conditions, one of the listed statements was "all bunkers are currently GUR". So Al wasn't personally decreeing it GUR but it had been done so (albeit in a rule contravening way) by the club
