Oooowwwwwww!

our club championship is played over 2 days and is cat 1 only, what is the point of a cat3 player entering a best gross comp

Ours is in two parts - best gross is club champion but there is also a best nett which is just as fiercely contended on the day. Winner is normally different for the two but the guy who won the club championship also took the best nett as well. Off 6 handicap and shot a 5 under second round to win by 1.

I thought this too but ours has extra competitions, best net over 2 rounds and gross stroke over 14 handicap so still stuff to play for no matter how good you are. It was just good to be apart of the day, our touring pro turned up (just finished tied 60th at the Open, his first major), the pro was out with his iPad taking scores down and giving a running leaderboard, all the scores were up on the TV so you could see who was leading...it was a good crack.

Good to hear, there were nett prizes but a general lack of organisation and care really the secretary was on hols week before and delegrated duties but didn't really work and on the day the computer system was on between rounds early on so us cat 2 hackers didn't know where we stood (well I did!)

6" With regard to playing its not only Cat 3 not sure there's any point cat 2 players playing if there are several cat 1 players in the field our total was +7 so that means I would of had to shoot -13 on handicap so I was wasting my time from the off but still feel you should play club champs if you can.

When we moved to the new longer course, a lot of players (not just the seniors) found it harder going. Our club champs was 36 holes on one day and the field reduced significantly as it was too much. Many dropped out after the first round and so the club decided to make it 18 holes on Saturday with a cut and 18 on the Sunday. Numbers have increased and the number of NR's in round one are down.

Ive got our Club Championship this weekend. Ours is over 2 days though with trophies for best Gross, Best Net, over 12.5hcp best gross over 36 holes and over 20.5hcp best gross score on the Sunday(I have my eye on that one). Well done Swanny for completing 36 holes in a day, cant be easy.
