The greens at Hanbury yesterday we pretty slick, especially compared to the ones I normally play.
Anyone who was there have any idea what sort of pace they were?
I've got nothing to compare against. I wouldn't know "10 feet on the Stimpmeter" if it got up and bit me..

They used to have the stimp reading displayed at Gullane golf club at the starters hut. I remember one outing where we all suffered because the grrens were so fast. That was about 10.

Certainly wouldn't like to play on greens faster than that.

I played the Brabazon at the Befry last year and they were 11. The Director of Golf told us that the Pro's like it at 11.5 for Ryder Cup and tour events. They we pretty quick, but you didnt have to hit them hard and they run true, pick the line, tap them and you've got a 10 footer!

Just went to Wikipedia. Good article on the Stimpmeter inculding this

"The USGA stimpmetered putting greens across the country to produce the following recommendations:

* Slow greens: 4.5 feet
* Medium greens: 6.5 feet
* Fast greens: 8.5 feet

For the U.S. Open, they recommend:

* Slow greens: 6.5 feet
* Medium greens: 8.5 feet
* Fast greens: 10.5 feet

The greens at Oakmont Country Club (where the device was conceived) are some of the fastest in the world, with readings of 13–15 feet."

And for anyone wondering what a stimpmeter looks like

So when I played Old Corkscrew, I was playing on .5 faster than the US Open?!?!? No wonder I had so many 3 putts!

In June last year ours were up to 10.5 they were unbelievably quick. We have Mckenzie greens like they do at Augusta. If you had the ball in the wrong part of the green & above the hole it was difficult just to keep it from going off the green itself. Funnily enough this was the period when I shot my best scores.

Yesterdays greens at Hanbury whilst being a decent pace I don't think were actually that quick, at least compared to how the top courses have them, where they caught a lot of our group out, me included, was the impact on the pace when you were above the hole.

I think for most they are a lot slopier than many courses greens and yesterday reading the putts from side on to assess the elevation changes for me was critical in trying to get the pace correct
