What do you guys do with your old copies of Golf Monthly? I'm urging the missus to get rid of her food and home type mags, and realised I'm just as guilty with the golf mags. I don't tend to revisit once I've read them, and it seems a shame to just chuck them...

To be honest I keep them about 3-4 months and then recycle them. The only ones I've kept for obvious reasons are the ones I've been in. If there is a particularly useful training drill I'll cut it out and file it in my golf folder in the spare room

They stick around for a month or 2 and then mine also go for recycling.

If you search hard enough through years of golf mags, the same instruction comes up every so often, the same travel destinations (albeit with a few additions) are there. itmay be interesting to keep reviews of kit just to see what we were using back in the day. Course reviews can be useful to keep as well but once they are 3 or 4 years old the can't necessarily be relied upon.

As a side, a mate lent me his new TG for a 2 minute read (i know it doesn't take that long but I tried!) and on the ad for next months issue they are going to test old kit against new kit. I'm sure they did this back in the spring - just shows that it keeps coming around. Good job GM find some original stuff!

Its a tough life at GM Towers. Out testing kit, out organising slow play surveys, out to Munich for trade fairs, working ont he best golf mag every month, out to the US for the Majors. Those days having to sit at a desk in GM HQ must really drag!!! ;)

HJS..don't take this the wrong way.....but have read about your missus being paid off(sorry about that....bummer!)
have you thought about putting the good lady in for a job about GM...you know,boring things like course reviews(across the world)hotels,food at different courses,ladies locker rooms and facilities,ladies clothing,shoes clubs etc;
Bummer of a job but what the hell someones got to do it!
And she gets paid!!!!
Gives you more time to practise(and no nagging!!)
What do you think?Good idea or what???

The great thing about HID is that she never nags about my golf and doesn't mind me playing, practicing or talking on here about golf. She realises it is a habit far more addictive than booze or drugs. Sadly my passion isn't shared by her although she did give plenty of forum members are run for their money in the TG fantasy league in the summer (and she really did pick her own teams).

I'm not sure GM HQ is a place for her. Not sure how she would cope with Paul O'Hagans untamed mane, Jezz Ellwood firing the latest wedges over her head, or the esteemed editor sliding out to another offsite meeting (conveniently being held at a golf course within easy reach). Now I on the other hand am on a direct train line into London, on a months notice (negotiable) and willing to make tea and file as long as it was on the GM team!

Homer et al,
GM team still too devastated to learn that you discard our lovingly crafted words after just a couple of months to even consider taking on any new members of staff right now...!

I don't recycle as much as I should. I have, I think all copies from last 18 months.
If i go up in the attic, i may have some from 1983.

Alas, if you were setting on, I for one would have to decline the offer as I don't think you could afford me or for that matter put up with me for more than a few days.

Me and My mrs almost fell out when I caught her heading for that blue bag under the stairs with my mags under arm.

Forget them Jezz, I will work for minimum wage, A crate of lucozade and a multipack of minichedders.

I was going to add that I do keep your sagely words of wisdom but I didn't want MikeH or the young whippersnappers to get disheartened, disillusioned or upset in case deadline day was looming.

Forget offers of minimum wage and lucozade etc, I'll get there before I've even gone to bed from the night before to polish your desk and PC and have your coffee to order waiting for your arrival.

After a morning cleaning your clubs, filing and pandering to your whims I'll take your luncheon order and bring it to your desk and not accept a penny in payment. I'll fill my afternoon ensuring you get to play the best courses (in the name of GM research) and other jobs of a trainee underling.

Failing that I'll pay you to work there! Or as old Yozza Hughes once said "I can do that mister, go on gis a job"

That's just cruel, the man probably won't get a wink of sleep all weekend now ;)

I have kept all my mags since I started a subscription two years ago at christmas.

Oh and Tony- Lucozade and mini chedders, Both essential components to me actually getting through each day :D

I keep mine, always like going back and reading different drills. A recent copy may not have the drill that I want so i'll go back maybe even a year, and see what there is :).
