Whatever about clubs doing their own thing, thats quite a few local 'variations' being implemented, suggesting everyone is looking for sticking plasters for the WHS problems : GP cards not as valuable as competition cards for EG ; 0.95% for single is too high for Aus Golf ; indexes not trustworthy enough for club representation eligibility in Ireland, some GP cards not acceptable in Mauritius. Scotland was doing its own thing on rounding, but has it now joined England ? And thats just from various contributors here. It certainly makes a mockery of the claim that we needed WHS so we would have one worldwide system. And worse, given such regional fixes, it confirms that WHS is inherently flawed, and that not just individual golfers, but regional associations do not trust it.
You're wasting your time criticising WHS

173 entries.....am sure the 7 marker's are happy with a top 10
Best gross was 67 from a plus 5 marker
Monthly Medal Competition.
They should be in a field that big. Looks like perfectly reasonable scoring with nothing exceptional. The only surprise perhaps is that there weren't any scores better than nett 66.
If it was entirely single figure handicaps, those 7s probably wouldn't finish any higher with their scores.

This is Mandurah? Par 71? So the +5 scored worse than their handicap?

Would it have still been "perfectly reasonable scoring with nothing exceptional" if the +5 man had tied 1st place with a 10-under par gross score?

-10 gross would be spectacular scoring. However, exceptional scoring as defined in the rules of handicapping is 7 or more better than handicap, so it would be a couple short of that.

Yes Mandurah....and the Authorities should be happy with single figure guys in top ten, just like the system was designed for ?
but not close to winning.

Maybe the weather 30C had something to do with the scores ?

They were very close to winning, and the winning score was well within their potential range.

Sorry, but this result looks like a great example of the handicap system working well.

If that's a good example then single figures should take a leaf out of the higher handicappers' book, who are doing it correctly apparently, and make sure they throw in the towel when having an off day.

Important to have around 3 to 4 extra shots to play with these days and easily done without arousing suspicion. Perfectly reasonable to do it as well because what you also suggested, when replying about the +5 shooting -10, is that there is a view that average applies evenly from +5 to 54.

Interesting stuff.

Agree, system works if you are a high handicap, if best you can hope for is a top ten for single figures,
then IMO the system is flawed.
Yes. It is flawed.

In the old days the system encouraged higher handicappers to look and learn from the lower, more consistent, players. Naturally people look to winners to see how it should be done. Now, if WHS is what we have, we must learn to emulate the new breed of winner and throw away shots when we're having a bad day.

If you can't beat them, join them.
