Does anyone know why there a richer green rings on the greens at royal st georges??
I have been asked this before as there are a lot on a nearby course to me. Being in horticulture I should really know but havnt really looked into it.
I know I'm a boring loser for asking the question but if anyone knows it would be good to find out!
Any ideas?

5 Live were saying that it was a fungus of some sort and that the grass grows quicker on these patches.

Fairy rings. It's a soil fungus and on some lawns you will get mushrooms or other fungi growing on the ring.

was my answer and that possibly where trees had benn taken out as fungus grows around the trunk perimeters?
I couldnt think of another answer as the rings are quite uniform.
If not then what produces the rings to be so funghi rich and the funghi not just growing in a clumo/bunch formation?

I thought they were patches left by all the octogenarian Ping players. I'd wet myself if I could hit some of those greens too.
:o :D
