My wife and I have listed the courses we have played since taking up the sport in our mid-40s, 423 courses in 24 different countries, are we obsessive golfers, obsessive list makers or just obsessive?
As a matter of curiosity how many years is this over and have you priced it up?My wife and I have listed the courses we have played since taking up the sport in our mid-40s, 423 courses in 24 different countries, are we obsessive golfers, obsessive list makers or just obsessive?
Good job that Japan isn't a continent thenI have been trying to play on every continent .. but Japan is expensive.
My wife and I have played in 24 countries across 5 continents (I didn't know until I just totted them up). We don't have list anywhere but once whilst bored waiting for a ferry returning from France we ticked off over a hundred we have played in France alone. A quick check suggests way over 200 in the UK, over 100 in the US across 14 states. So I would guess our total is well well north of 500.My wife and I have listed the courses we have played since taking up the sport in our mid-40s, 423 courses in 24 different countries, are we obsessive golfers, obsessive list makers or just obsessive?
Yup but I was just saying it was expensiveGood job that Japan isn't a continent then![]()
How many countries have over a hundred courses worth playing? Lots of countries may have 50 good courses for example, but after that it's not worth travelling to play them.
US, England, Scotland, Australia, Japan, Spain, France. Not sure there are many more?
Given the number of high quality South Korean golfers, especially ladies, there must be plenty there?
Canada has a huge number of courses and lots of space. Plenty must be decent?
Not sure of the number of courses in Ireland but with so many good ones that I'd wager the 101st best course is still pretty good.
After that I'm guessing at Germany (it's a big old country) and New Zealand (everything there is beautiful so even their worst course can't be bad)
New Zealand has one of the highest if not highest amount of golf courses per capitaYes good spot I didn't think of Canada. If you add N. Ire and Rep Ire together I imagine there is easily 100 great courses.
Top 100 website only does a top 50 for Korea, Germany top 30 and top 60 for NZ. So although these countries have some awesome golf courses there isn't much depth.
Interesting. But there aren’t many people in NZ, unless you’re counting the sheepNew Zealand has one of the highest if not highest amount of golf courses per capita
You will be welcomed, but make sure that the trip is in the summer (mid-May through mid-October works for most of the country).Canada has a lot of unused space but a quick Google suggests it has a similar number of courses to the UK, approximately 2,600. Lots then. I didn't expect that. Golf trip to Canada...........
I remember noting when I was there last summer that the courses I saw were effectively open for 6 months. They were quite open about that. You will be welcomed, but make sure that the trip is in the summer (mid-May through mid-October works for most of the country).
Only course I have played in Canada was on the military base at Goose Bay. Was quite agricultural and the greens were astroturf laid on railway sleepers. If you think the greens are hard to pitch on at the moment in the UK, you ain't seen nothing!I remember noting when I was there last summer that the courses I saw were effectively open for 6 months. Banff GC was about as pretty as I have ever seen. Gorgeous.
Excuses, excusesOnly course I have played in Canada was on the military base at Goose Bay. Was quite agricultural and the greens were astroturf laid on railway sleepers. If you think the greens are hard to pitch on at the moment in the UK, you ain't seen nothing!![]()
