Not exactly 28-scratch in a year but...

He is hoping to shoot level for 18 holds around this par 3 course as far as I can tell.

Yup that's the challenge, unless I have a really good day I'm still 5 or 6 shots away. I had 9s is +2 and +3 last time out with three tee shots spinning back off the green.

Its only 1000 yards but its still a challenge, still fun and still feels possible.

The new putting stroke should yield more birdies, the new chipping more pars and the better swing more greens.

I just need to nail my new distances with all these improved contact consistency!

Congratulations on the news of the baby.

Very best of luck with the challenge it will be tough but never impossible, and well don on the thought of the donation to HTH.

Hit em straight ....ish

Re: Not exactly 28-scratch in a year but... Update!

Could not have been closer today!

Went out for a playing lesson and despite two scuff hooks I shot +1 gross 28, even missed a 6 foot birdie putt on the second. Went out for a 9 right after and shot 27 for an 18 total of +1, that 9 also included a short birdie miss and another short miss for a bogey. Rolled in a birdie on the 8th though!

So with a record set I went out for a third 9, starting to drizzle but opened with a bird! Sadly four short putts missed later left me two over for the third 9.

All bar two if the short misses were hit well, on line, I just started to over read breaks and under hit as the greens got coated in water droplets.

With a bit more ability to adapt I could easily have been 3 shots better than my 27 hole total of +3 gross! My irons, wedges and chips were red hot!

So the record for holes round that par 3 course 18 smashed down to +1 and the summer just getting underway I feel an 18 of level or better is another step closer.

Good stuff!

I think the highlight was when the pro said bar those two scraggy tee shots he would be very happy with my game. One simple putt I missed I clearly came up and out of, pulling it left, the other was just golf.

H4H cash is still safe for the moment though, need to hole those 8 footers first!

I only wish I had the game at Pidley on Tuesday, I was nailing the longer clubs that day but couldnt buy an iron or wedge shot. Totally the inverse today!

Great idea Tom. I think you'll be shooting under par by the end of the year! I'm sure this will have a great benefit on your overall game.

Hi Si, no see long time! I hope the same soon, my pro said I was giving myself enough chances and pars were not hard work!

Sadly it didn't help me much last time out, taking it to a full course is tricky as the par 3 plays off mats... TBH I was not swinging well and I should have gone to the range in the week leading up to it but I did not practice for over a week beforehand.

I recommend par 3 courses highly, I really liked Ampfield when I lived in C'Ford. +4 is my best round there, with 4 birdies!

Well after some rest due to a sprained ankle, lots of 2-4 over 18s I played 27 holes today. First was my final lesson, a playing one again. Hit the ball terribly but chipped and putted insanly well, shot plus 2.

Out after a rain break and my putt on 9 stopped on the lip to leave me one over for the 9. The final 9 I opened with a bird but lipped out for 4 on 2. Parred my way home to level for the 9, plus 1 for 18!

Amazing score considering I probably only hit 7 greens all day, I got up and down all but 5 times. That's 15 time it was just a chip and putt par. With the way I putted all I needed to do was hit greens but the swing was not there. Some how I just kept getting the par...

It feels so close now, the level 18. Twice I have had a chance, today I blew it off the tee but made par, last time the putt lipped away.

Next time... Next time!

Going to have to call it a loss on this goal! I didn't do level par for 18 round my local par 3.

So many close calls including lip out for level par on the last on two separate occasions! More +1s and +2s that might have been to mention.

Donation going to H4H in the next couple of days, tried today but it failed due to IT error.

I'm giving £10 for not making it and £10 each for those two lip outs that should have dropped to complete the goal!

Unlucky and a valiant effort!,

Sounds like you got a lot out of the challenge, and I'm sure you will make that shortly as well.

That H4H also wins makes it a win win scenario :)

Thanks for that. Kind of reiterates my point and while the OP is clearly making some big strides, there's a gulf between this and even a nine hole course. It's about making the next step and doing it on a bigger course where length will be an issue. I hope he can go out and start playing longer courses and take the hard work he's done with him. I'm sure he can

It actually transitioned well to the yellow tees, shot a few high 80, one low 80s and some low 90d. Only played 6 full course rounds but hit the long clubs well.

Not a member so no white tees play but the driver and 3 woods off the tes are the best they have ever been!

Highlight was a 4i off the deck from 190 to 15 feet! Pity it was after having to hack out from under a tree :( but at least i got the par :)
