• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

North v South

Smiffy is your man although this was largely a Golf Magic meet.

Maybe the scores from Beau Desert would be more suited! :D

Vig, BobMc, Jan, Smiffy Eejit and my self played Beau Desert on Wednesday. We drove down and stayed over so we didnt have to set off early for the Golf magic meet. 2x 3 balls stableford. Vig Bob and Me. Jan Smiffy and Eelit.

As Tony say's Smifty had the scores and pic's, he's probably still on a motorway and nursing his sore head. :D

I had a great time, golf, weather, company, top draw :) :) :)

Hi TonyN and VIG

It's me Steph Thoroughly enjoyed yesterday, especially your company, along with John's. Great day out. Really pleased that what we lacked in golf we made up with laughter. Tony, I'm sure you will playing to single figures very soon. Hope to meet up again with you at sometime in the future.

Steph Welcome to 'Thee' forum. :D

Thanks for the kind words and for your company yesterday, some excellent shots played by you and always had a smile on your face, even when you were knee deep in rough, great sport.

Whilst were on the subject, just a quick thankyou to Smiffy for organising the day. He was a great host and a right laugh in the pub. Helped prove that the south are a bunch of weak shandy drinkers when he was hung over from 4 lager tops (2 pints) :D Hope to play against you sometime smiffy as it was pretty close between us at Beau Desert by the sound of things.

You Northern Knob!!
It was 5 pints, and the last 2 didn't have any "top" in them....
I did warn you that I didn't normally drink, so it came as no surprise that I had a headache (it wasn't a hangover ;)) the following morning.
A great couple of days, shame the golf at Whittington didn't compare to the previous days at Beau Desert.
Lovely to meet up with Bob & Jan as well, and despite Jan not scoring particularly well on Wednesday I could see that she had a good game in her, she has a very good swing and a short game to envy. This was proved by the fact that she was the top scorer around Whittington Heath in the morning with a fantastic 22 points over the 9 holes. Whittington wasn't that easy, penal rough and some very small landing areas. A cracking course though, as was Beau Desert.
The secretary at Whittington Heath has offered to hold the price for next year if we want to go back and have a rematch, something that is definitely on the cards. If we do go back I will definitely play Beau Desert again....I thought that course was absolutely top drawer.
Will post a link to some piccies once I've downloaded them but that will have to wait until tomorrow....I'm knackered now so am off to bed for a couple of hours.
Thanks to everybody who attended for making it such a great success and was really good to meet Tony and Vig for the first time.
Rob

Smiffy your 3rd was a pint of lemon aid, but you were too far gone to even finish your dinner :D And after the charm and charisma you shown to 'persuade' the lady behind the bar to turn the oven back on an hour after the kitchen had closed.

I dunno, you should have got up and had breakfast with us in the morning, the Little Chef brekkie was pretty good, and got me fighting fit for whit, unfortuntaly, I left my game in the travel lodge.

Good sport mate. Lets not leave it for another year. Your welcome this way anytime!

Welcome on board Steph. Red tee, should be pink ball. :D
I can't see the white ball so the pink had me beat.

As for the golf, it was nothing short of spetac.. specta.. spect.... well, I can't think of a word for it really but will be searching my locker this weekend to see if I can find it :o

Absolute pleasure to have your company for the day and along with John you were a credit to the "other side" SHHH, can't mention the name on here.

As for "pulling" Parmo, if only I was twenty years younger ;)

Can I also endorse what Tony said about Smiffy's organisation of the event.
Superb job mate.
Had a very enjoyable evening with yourself & eejit who could drink!.
Smiffy YOU were drinking lemonade with a splash of lager. Don't try and give me that flannel.
I won't mention anything else about the pub you silver tongued dog you. :o
AND you DID have an hangover.
Would not like to have to wait a year for a game mate, we'll have tol do one some time.
KEEFG no problems in the drinking comp for the cross forum challenge, we can have a 6 pint warm up before we start with these lightweights

I believe that John is going to look in on here and may be interested in the NW v Ne game
Tony, as always, a pleasure to play with.
I am absolutely wrecked, had 8 hrs kip in 2 days and the bags under my eyes are coming on a treat, Think I mightwrite to 10 yrs younger and see what they can do.

Eejit, firstly welcome to the forum.

Sceondly, i will be coming down to Mawgan Porth again (come every year) in July but this time i will be armed with my clubs. Apeart from the 9 hole pitch and putt in the village can you recommend any of the local courses for me OR perhaps even joining up for a game?
;)

Hiya PPE, i am only about 10 minutes from Mawgan Porth, you have Merlin GC at the top of the hill in Mawgan, Treloy a 9 hole parkland and of course Newquay GC just PM me nearer the time and i am sure we can have a round or 2 somewhere. ;0)
