Are you an active playing golfer or do you just read about and discuss it?

93%+ actively playing is pretty darn good. Beauty of golf is that you can potentially play for many decades.
I imagine for other sports with internet discussion forums like football or rugby the participation level of those actively playing those sports is way down under 15%.
The thing is, if you've never played then golf is not worth watching on telly really. I never watched it when I wasn't playing. I can see why golf on TV is boring to those who don't play, as you can't appreciate the skill or difficulty. So if you're not playing it or watching it, you've no reason to come on here and talk about it.

I know what you mean but both Ryder Cup and Tiger Woods bucked that trend. TW back in 1997 made golf cool for 8 or 9 years. I think he generated a lot of interest from non golfers.
Agree the modern tournament schedule events on tv seems to have settled back down to a bit boring again, unless you play.

Ryder Cup seems to be the only time 'characters' are allowed to emerge from their normally robotic staid strokeplay demeanors.

When Europe won the RC back in 1985, was on BBC and I recall the whole family being quite hooked, on the last afternoon anyway. Didn't normally watch any golf.
