Another day killing time in Newcastle!

I will admit that I booked this last night for £15 and had absolutely zero expectations - I went cheap incase I had to leave the course early. Normally, knowing I had time, I would have booked a "better" course.

I turned in at 8 this morning to find s mostly deserted car park and a municipal looking club house with boarded up bits (it's not in the best part of toon). I was met by the friendly pro who equipped me with everything I needed to find my way around. He told me no mats - yay. I then discovered you had to carry your own rake for the bunkers as a trade off (did I mention it was in a rough bit of toon?)🤣

Well, the place was shocking! It really shocked me just how good the condition of the fairways were and the bunkers looked well maintained (thankfully didn't go in a single one but brought the rake for company). I duly arrived at the first green and three putted spectacularly thanks to the green. This happened on a further 4 occasions on the front nine. I could not compute how they were so fast and true in November (best comparison was Goswick the day after their open in July!). I had a great chat with the head keeper who told me there were only 3 of them at the moment working flat out. The place was an amazing credit to them👍

Considering I have played 3 "away" course as well as my own over the past month they should all hang their heads in shame. This is an underrated cracker of a course, I would even say I much prefer it to the loftier "The Northumberland" which I would consider it's closest comparison!

Well worth a trip to play a massively underrated course. Hats off to them😁

I was a member there for about 12 years or so.
Course is a Good layout.
Good test of golf
Some people dislike as cant cope with the undulations and lack of flat fairways
They do the best with what they have, as not a lot of members, so its great to hear you enjoyed it and next time I call by into the shop for a coffee, I'll pass on your positive comments.

As for the clubhouse....it's very friendly and a bit like a local social club.
Has a simulator room inside now too.
