I think Ashley must take some blame. But looking at there squad they should have been nowhere near the bottom 3 never mind going down

But I can't say I'm disappointed....my only worry is where will we get the guaranteed 6 points from each season

Rather the similar opposite of the transgender bloke who proclaims himself to be a woman (or vice versa) - and so feels entitled to be treated as a woman (including going into the ladies loos?). Naw yer a bloke - so keep out of the ladies loos. And so with NUFC today 'we're an EPL Big Club' they say. Naw your a relegated Championship club - sort it out.

Nice analogy there (assuming a 'similar opposite' can be an analogy?). I possibly wouldn't have immediately gone down the transgender route as a comparison to Newcastle's woes, but hey, you don't get that kind of punditry from Lawro and Shearer.

Still a big club regardless of what League they're in!
Did Rangers cease to be a big club when they were kicked out the SPL? People still confused between big club and succesful club.

if Rafa stayed I think the likes of Townsend, shelvey, perez would be happy to have a crack at the championship as they will feel they are young enough still and can learn from Rafa.

Players don't like Benitez - he alienates players and is a strict authoritarian. It would be difficult to see players staying for him; they may leave because of him!

Bit sad Newcastle have gone down, whilst the likes of Bournemouth, Watford and Burnley will be in EPL next year, weakens the top division for me, as a neutral.
Is what it is and Newcastle havent been good enough, I have fond memories of the mid 90s team that had Asprilla, Beardsley, Ginola Albert etc that played brilliant attacking football in league and Champions league and have had a soft spot for them since. The strip is one of the best around too...classic.
Hopefully come back soon and lose Ashley however unlikely that is.

Can't say I'm sorry to see Newcastle go down, any more than I am to see Villa relegated either. I don't think they're going to find life in the Championship easy either with or without Benitez. Players with ambitions to play for their country such as Shelvey and Townsend can't afford to be playing in the Championship so they'll be looking to move. Tough times ahead.

This says more about the players than the manger. When someone is earning huge amounts of money and has cost the club millions, why shouldn't they expect to follow a strict regime? Too many players go through the motions and just pocket the cash.

Deluded?

For simply wanting nothing more than a team that puts a shift in on the park on a Saturday afternoon? A hardworking shift that reflects their own struggles to make ends meet?

Clueless.

Give over man they still trot out the old Barcelona of the North lrubbish and reckon Man U are their main rivals. A few decent seasons 20 odd years ago and the Geordie nation think they are one of the elite

Reading today that the football league has more stringent rules on owners having interests in other clubs. Speculation is that Ashley might be forced to release his stranglehold on rangers as a result. Fingers crossed for that!

The shares he owns having to be sold won't make a great deal of difference TBH as he has already lost control of the boardroom. Rangers' issues with Ashley will continue to be the contracts he has in place...

Oh dear, they are already propagating the myth that they would have stayed up if they got Rafa in earlier as well.

Actually it's not about dual ownership, the rules extend to having "commercial interest" so those contracts are very much what this is about.

I saw that yesterday. They slag the owner off yet they spent more money than anyone in Europe in January, they wanted Pardew out and eventually forced him out yet have been on a decline since then yet he's now still a decent PL manager with a cup final to look forward to but he wasn't good enough for Newcastle despite giving them European football for the first time in a decade and PL stability.

You are a long way out of date there. I'm an Everton fan living up here, so Toon neutral, and any illusion of greatness from fans disappeared a very long time ago. They have no illusions of being a league winning team, the fans just want exactly what nickjdavis asked for. They want to see graft, effort, hopefully some skill and to be entertained. Not a huge amount to ask. They have not had that for quite some time.

No doubt they'll still be the first report in the sports section on BBC north east and Tyne Tees TV. Will miss the local derby, but wouldn't miss the hype.

Even our local MP said the ONE north east development organisation stood for Only Newcastle Exists, when speaking about the lack of investment in Sunderland and Middlesbrough.

Hobbit - wouldn't argue about that. I heard a very strong argument recently that instead of making the A1 a motorway between Leeds and Newcastle they should upgrade the A19 as that would also benefit Boro and Sunderland and open development there. I couldn't argue against the logic yet it is never mentioned.

Next year will be interesting as Sunderland and Boro will be in the PL yet I suspect you will be right and the Toon will still lead the local sports news. To be fair the same argument is made in other regions where you have a historically larger city/team that dominates but it does not make it right.

Not convinced about that. If you read the rules they are sufficiently wooly to leave plenty of wiggle room for commercial arrangements, they are much tighter when it comes to ownership and control.

On the positives, apart from being able to take the P out of the self proclaimed "best supporters in the land", I'll have at least one, probably two games (Rotherham and Sheff Wed) to go to next season 😅
