Looking at gettting a new set of irons in the next 2 months after I get married. The OH gets a dress so new clubs is my treat! My current clubs are old Wilson LT1200's! Bit of background history I used to play quite a bit around 10 years ago. Recently got back into the full swing of the sport have been playing now every week since October. Dont have a handicap yet as havent joined a club but planning too. I normally score around 97 - 102 fairly consistently. I am left handed so have found it quite hard finding places that have a selection of irons. My local AG has the following

Mizuno JPX-800
Ping G15
Ping G20

I liked the look of all of them and the prices were pretty similar. Probably swaying more towards the Ping's.

I will obiously try them all before I buy but would be interested to hear reviews from people using these clubs.

Steer clear of Ping irons and look instead at the Wilson Staff Di11 or Ci9 clubs

Cost approx £299 a set and far better for the money in my opinion

Traded my Ping g10 irons for Ci9 and not looked back

I to am not overkeen on Ping irons but I wouldnt advise the OP to steer clear of them as they have a massive following and seem very popular. It will still come down to personal preference in the end.

I had a custom fit session last week and have gone for the JPX800. I tried the I20's but couldn't get the strike that I was achieving with the JPX.

With the right shaft in they are lovely and my distance and dispersion (on the scope) were a massive improvement over my Callaway X-18's. I've ordered them with stiff KBS shafts and the results were amazing - 6 iron carry up 20 yards on my X-18's and the dispersion was right down.

A friend has also ordered the JPX800 and his improvements were similar to mine.

My heart had been set on the I20 but (in my case) I got on with the JPX so much better. I get them in a week or so and can't wait to hit them in anger.

We've had to re-jig the bag a little as I ended up with too much gap at the lower end so the lob wedge has gone and I'll be carrying 2 pitching wedges - the standard JPX and my Cleveland CG16.

Definitely try before you buy and make sure you get custom fitted.

I have Taylor Made Burners and they are brilliant for my level. They will be great for your level too. I really recommend them. A nice used set would be a coupe of hundred quid.
I wouldn't go mad until you get down to 10-12 handicap then you can go for some Proper forged irons!
I would also recommend getting fitted and make sure you get a nice 20 odd degree hybrid.

Try before you buy. If you use a big store (AG) then they usually have some demo versions in a stock room even if they haven't got the model on the shelf. Ask. I'd try as many as you can including Ping, TM RBZ (or you can get Burners cheap), and the Mizuno JPX range. Also have a look at Callaway X series
