Having just joined a new club and taking golf a bit more seriously, I've decided to ditch the cheap irons and invest in some better quality irons.

I am limited by a budget, not sure how much yet, and am unsure about custom fittings etc.

Any ideas?

Get yourself to a good range where you can try as many sets that appeal to your eye. Also ask about custom fitting if available.

Personally I'd buy second hand until you get to a reasonable std and they got for a brand new.

Good advice from Andy, and don't worry about not being good enough for clubs, good clubs force you to improve IMO. :)

Great point about players not being good enough for clubs. 1 of the reasons I boought them, they helped me to single figures.

Dont rush into it, your better getting the right clubs, than buying something for the sake of it.
I would also say dont be afraid to buy last years clubs, some good deals to be got with a bit of haggling and cash in hand.
Try your proshop he may have some hidden gems.
