I'm looking to buy a new set of iron and have my eye on the Cobra FP and S9's. I am a high-handicap, but feel I hit my irons OK, therefore not sure if I would notice that much a difference between the two.

Has anyone had any experience with either?

Also, I was thinking of going for custom fitting, but can save over £100 if stnadard fit ones are bought online. I am an average 6ft tall and have quite a smooth-ish swing. Also tend to slice the ball every so slightly. Wonderiig if it is worth paying the extra to get the custom fitted in shop or save 100 quid online.

Thanks

A recent article in GM tested the merits of custom fitting for new drivers. With the variations in grip, shaft, flex, etc combined with the player's individual characteristics, it makes sense to ensure that you get fitted for the right club. Especially when it is likely to be the single most expensive club in the bag.

I have never been custom fitted for clubs but can see the obvious merits in doing so. Every advantage helps. My question would be does anybody know where (in Scotland) I can go to get fitted for my new driver?

I bought a set of cobra fp's 2 weeks ago. I tryed the cobra s9's as well, im a high handicapper like you and found the fp's to be great, i did not notice any differents between the 2 sets (ie distance, accuracy). But i was using graphite irons before, but now use these steel fp.s and they go further than my old graphite clubs. go for the fp's if your hitting you irons ok there better to look at, and cheaper. if you wanna save money , buy them online and you can always have the lies adjusted at a store on a later date, for about £25. the main reason i went for them was because they only have a mid-with sole and accuracy and distance was sopt on.

Thanks damslice for your reccomedation. I think the FP's are more appealing to me as they are still a forgiving club. I dare say there might be a slight difference between them and ths S9's, but wheather this merits the £100 price difference, I am not so sure.
Thanks

Dave, I'm in the North East of Scotland - Aberdeenshire area. There is a Nevada Bob's in Aberdeen, but I wasn't aware of them doing custom fitting.

I was told that Ping had a custom fitting centre at St. Andrews, but I assume that they will only fit for Ping clubs.

Any suggestions would be most welcome....
