The ask the expert section has been the subject of debate recently and who should or should not give expert advice etc.

How about a new section called Helpful tips and advice where we can all post those little nuggets of tips and advice that have proven to be the way forward

This doesnt have to just be the swing, tips on gear, tips on playing a course, but this could build up to a useful library of help for all of us.

This isnt to replace the ask the experts which i agree with Bob where posting videos are better

My new idea is have a section that will allow this wealth of knowledge on here to be shared from everything from playing the game, tips on maintaining gear, tips on course management, tips on lowering the hcp, tips on how to play a range of shots i.e wet bunkers, playing in windy conditions, playing slopes etc etc

Sounds a good idea. I always love reading what things have helped others and then trying them out myself.

I agree, sometimes a tip from one golfer will be helpful to others

This would compliment the ask the expert section but could lead to a long list of tips over the year

Doesnt have to be swing related either can be gear tips, course management tips you name it

Most advice is given from personal experience. They recognise a common fault between them and the other person and give advice accordingly.

Where the issues come in is that often the common fault may not be the cause and therefore the wrong "cure" is given.

Think of it like in medicine, OK two people have a cough but there could be HUNDREDS of different causes! Its the same for a hook or a slice. Maybe the two people both the grip slightly wrong but one compensated for it with a subtle move in the backswing because they had far better posture. The cure is not to just change the grip but improve the posture too, probably the posture would be the better cure if the grip was right for the first person.

Its complex things like this that make the section a hazardous area. My advice would be more to those using it than those contributing. The advice would be take every instruction as an option, think about it, try it, if it doesn't work move on. If in serious doubt see a professional!

I think it is a great part of the forum, I have found some great bits of advice, some fantastic drill ideas (I have also shared many of my putting ones there) and links to some very useful videos. I have also seen many times advice that was not what I would have expected, whether it was right or wrong I could not tell.

I completely agree with what your saying. If you have a major problem with your game a lesson is the only way to go. But like you say, if its just a little tip that you can try it would be very useful. I don't think anyone ever expects every tip they get on here to work 100% of the time. Plus as wolfman said it doesn't have to be just about actually playing.
