Hi everyone, i just wanted to ask how often or quickly you change clubs. I took up golf a year ago and bought Callaway big bertha 08 irons and was probably playing to about 24. I am now probably playing between 12 and 16 depending on days (yet to get a handicap). Now if im honest a bit of boredom i suppose and also i like the idea of new clubs (dont ask why cos i dont know) and am considering getting Ping i15's. Am i being stupid do you think. I cabn get custom fitted by my pro but im finding it hard to justify.

Any thoughts?

First question would be why haven't you got a handicap. Do you not put any qualifiers in over the course of a year or enter club competitions. How do you know that is your figure.

The I15 are an excellent club and I was very close to getting a set last year. However if you can hold on the I20 are due out mid-February and so if you want the 15's they should start reducing in price. However my advice would be to try as many as you can before making a decision, but maybe get some input from your pro. I like the R11's a lot which may suit you. I like the Cleveland CG16 Tour's too but at the end of the day try before you buy

I havent got a handicap because i havent put any cards in yet. Ive only been playin a year or so. I play on a par 70 course which i am gettin round in between 82 and 86. How much realistically are the i20's gonna be. As i said im really tempted but its hard to justify after buyin the callaway big bertha last year. Is a year with that level of club about right to start looking at changing??

Still surprised you haven't managed to get three cards in for handicapping after a year. I'm guessing the RRP of the I20 will be around £699 maybe less. The trouble with the big bertha is they are definitely aimed at the game improver end of the market and if you do get a handicap to reflect the level you are playing at there are many other makes and models that will better suit

Its more a case of i have been focussing on learning to play cos ive never played before last year. As i say im inclined to get the i15 but after buying the clubs a year ago theres nothing wrong with them and explaining why i want new clubs to the missus is like rocket science :-)

What rubbish, handicap has no bearing on what clubs you can or cannot use.

Go and have a bash with as many as you can and pick whatever feels best along with giving the results you are after.

Trade the Cally in (will soften the financial blow) and tell them that to get to be the best golfer you can be you need the right gear and the I15 are what you need right now. That or the age old - I'm testing them for GM (and pray she doesn't see the credit card bill or receipt)

Hi chris. I have hit the i15 well a 7 iron and 3 iron and both went further than my callaway big bertha. The question was really more of a sense of is it normal to want to change from the initial game improver clubs even tho there is nothing wrong with them.

How much would a set of callaway big bertha realistically go for. To be fair to her she would say just buy them its justifying it to myself the biggest problem ha

i went from the big bertha irons to i15's and its the best golfing decision i ever made. i got a cracking deal off a forum user for the i15's. golfbidder gave me £160 for my 4-sw big bertha irons. alternatively put them in the for sale section on here

Have to say I have just bought the R11 irons and they work brilliantly for me - a real confidence club. Just feel a world apart to my Ping G15 - like Homer says sho about and try all options, one will just stand out above the rest.
