New Club? Berks / Hants Border... Help!

North Hants is awesome

I like East Berks but the lack of reasonable par 5 would put me off, very fiddly golf course.

i really like mill ride but have heard it gets very wet in the winter.

Not it sure about cost at any of these but given travel distance you've mentioned I'd be picking North Hants

Was a junior there, could be a really nice club if it just focused on the basics. When I went to uni it must have had about 3 ownership changes in 5 years including proposals for a new clubhouse w/ gym and other frills that I think still haven't been put in and aren't really necessary imo.

Should be focusing on improving some of the poorest holes there as it wouldn't be difficult to widen certain areas a tad (lay up on 10, give an actual option on 6 other than trying to drive the green). Other thing that wanted changing is fixing the short game area which got extremely soggy, the course itself was always decent in that regard.

You may consider the Army GC .........they currently offering 14 months for price of 12.

It it hosted a Europro last year and John E Morgan rated it highly

I think where you live the best option would be North Hants which really is a nice course and a very similar standard to Blackmoor.

Other options to consider would be East Berks, West Surrey (if not too far away), West Byfleet and the Army which are all decent tracks. I suspect all the rest of the Surrey 'names' will be a bit too pricey.

Chaps, thanks to everyone for giving input. Lots of things to consider, but you have all been very informative and it's very much appreciated.

Completely disagree Gordon, North Hants for me is no where near as good as Blackmoor. It gets very wet in the winter aswell. Blackmoor has always been in much better condition then North Hants. But only played it twice TBF.

Have to say I agree with Simon, admittedly I have only played North Hants once and Blackmoor twice but Blackmoor is miles ahead of North Hants.

I've played them both numerous times Simon and the condition of NH has improved over the last couple of years. Personally I would say that NH is the stronger test as it is more demanding off the tee although it is a close run thing.

What do you know about courses ?

North Hants has lost a bit of its heathland feel, and has too many new bunkers. 9th for example. Not sure how easy it is to get into North Hants, but Sawtooth looked into it a while back so may be able to help. Imagine it has a joining fee, and subs around £1500 ? It does have a massive clubhouse, but maybe getting a bit corporate now ?

East Berkshire is a decent course, and I believe a mate of Wookie's is a member. Wookie's place, The Army, is good as well, and West Byfleet is underrated. Sam85 is a member there.

Have you ever broken 90 round Blackmoor.;)

I think Blackmoor is better because of the par threes - but North Hants has a few tougher long par 4's.

I would personally pick Blackmoor as the club to join but then it is one of my favourite golf courses in ththe country

Don't get me wrong, I really like Blackmoor a lot but just feel it is being held back by not having a decent barber shop in the area.
