New car!

There was something not quite right with the car, so did not buy it. Service history ran out in 2008, no subsequent bills, old MOT's etc apart from the current one. It was supposed to be owned by the dealers sister in law, but she had just been using it for the last month, and knew nothing about the car. Dealer had told us more than once that it was her car, and she got shirty when we pushed the point.

The car actually seemed clean, apart from one strange thing. When I examined the spare tyre in the boot, it appeared that a chip pan of grease had been dropped all over the internal body work. Could this be some sort of trick to hide a rear end shunt, and some welding ?

Hopefully will have better luck next time, as my daughter was very disappointed.

Sorry to hear that mate :)

Well done.
So many used cars out there that if you've any doubts at all you walk away.
Plenty more in the Sea.....Mind you they'll be a bit rusty.. :D

You did the right thing there Rich , if it doesnt seem right its best to leave it there , the grease does sound strange & your thoughts could be spot on , there can be excess wax/sealer from delivery (even at this age) but it is usualy just along the seams/ folds in the floor , normaly neat tho, could be body shuts(sp)which could indicate excessive water leak, rust (normaly underneath) or accident damage , loadsa cars out there mate better to wait for the right one rather than buy someone elses trouble, if you buy from a dealer you should get a warranty , if your worried , spend the extra for an independant engineer to inspect it whilst its inside warranty , he will give you a list of faults , (if any) return to dealer with a COPY of the list & get it sorted ..

Had the green light today to confirm pick up on Saturday afternoon.

Also got told that when he (the consultant who bought the car on my behalf) went to see the car, the tyres were looking a bit worn and were only *just* legal...So after some strong words to the bloke who sold him the car, he's putting 4 brand new 18" Dunlop tyres coming in at 700 quid for the lot...all at no cost to me, he's charging the bloke who sold him the car because he refuses to send a car out with barely legal tyres.

Which is why I buy cars from this guy :)

Spending the rest of Saturday afternoon cleaning it ? ;) ;)

Good luck with the new car Jon, hope it's as good as it sounds.

Oh and thanks for all the good advice regarding my daughters car from all the forumers.
