Naming the Monarch

So for the price of a silver spoon Prince George will have a cossetted life laid out before him from birth to death free of want, fear, hunger, failure, choice or ambition, I pity the sprog.

I just can't get the image of Hugh Lawrie's Prince George from Blackadder out of my head.

Incidentally, Scottish shorthand for George is 'Dod'... maybe a wee inference to 'Dodi'. ;)

Birth name of William & Harry is Mountbatten-Windsor, William and Harry are both known as Wales for their military rank and the Wee one they chose to call Cambridge though the birth certificate may also say Mountbatten-Windsor its not likely we'll ever actually know..

It was the last King George, the Queens father that changed the families surname to Windsor after Windsor castle so as during the Wars to distance the Royals from their German cousins and origins as at that time their name was Saxe-Coburg a very German line of Royalty and Kaisers. Then when Queenie married Prince Phil she added his surname Mountbatten to their own name of Windsor to make sure the Royal name continued in some way rather than disappearing.

Plus in all honesty the wee-uns surname as is Chuckys and Wills surname is an irrelevance so are their first names because once they ascend the throne they have the right to change it to whatever they so wish. So who knows what the Royals could be called in a few years time..

Here endeth the lesson!
