Not having regular coaching at moment but have had lessons in the past (last ones about 9 months ago). Need more. Just back into practice at once per week but hope to up it to twice. Playing about once per month. Have an EGU handicap of 19, which as far as I'm concerned is very flattering. My scores suggest something more akin to 24 -25ish

Strengths. Length; no problems in hitting it a long way. Also tend to get plenty (and mean "plenty") of height on a shot esp' with short iron. Weaknesses - inconsistency, meaning it often goes a long way in wrong direction. Would happily swap 20-30 yards length for more consistency. Good shots are draws, not so good are gentle pushes, bads shots, (and quite common) are hooks. Woods play is rubbish and rarely use them. Long irons not too bad but inconsistent. Short irons; poor at judging how hard to hit half or ¾ shots

First vid is my hook, second is an ok shot

I quite liked the spine angle if a little rigid at address. Your 2nd video looked as if the club was pointing right at the top of the swing instead of more down the line but I thought it looked pretty tidy.

Looks like the fore arms rotating at the begining of the b/swing and the club very much behind you at the halfway point.
See where the clubshaft points at the top of the b/swing
To stop the ball going right, you have to flip the wrists hence the hook.
I would try and feel a one piece take away and try and get the clubshaft pointing left of your target at the top and check it on video.

Thanks for all the info that you provided

It certainly looks like you can swing the club and get the ball moving a long way.
The reason that you will hit so many wayward shots is because of the line of your golf swing.
As you move the club into the backswing it starts offline and then it is down to more luck than judgement if you get it back online near the ball. This is why you will be inconsistent.

Remeber this
The club has to be parallel to the ground and the ball to target line 4 times during the swing
Halfway back - at hip height
At the top of the swing
Halfway down - at hip height
Just past impact - at hip height

As you will see in your swing you miss the first parallel

To work on
Take the club away in one motion and make sure that you swing through the first parallel (at hip height)
Try stopping at this position, checking that you are in the correct place and then continue your swing.

A number of the guys on this forum have talked about an Explaner, if you can get on one of these things and feel they way the club moves it will give you a good insight into the direction the club should move on

If you can start the club away on the correct line then you give yourself the best chance to hit consistent/straight shots

Let me know how you get on

Neil, Bobmac;
thanks - after today, I'm really going to need to give it some serious attention

nomadpaul; Correct. I've started going there as my usual range has p1ssed me off one too many times now (Waiting half an hour for a bay and then not having any balls was the final straw..)
