My first ever Club Champs...

Anyone would think its an expedition up mount Everest!! Last summer me and a mate took a week off work and played 36 holes straight every day! If it's warm then obviously you need fluids with you and as long as you can grab a quick bite between rounds it really isn't a big deal at all. Anyway good luck with the comp.

other than what has already been mentioned have you thought about taking a mate as a caddy? Is there anything in the rules saying you can't? Maybe a good idea for the second 18 as they will push the trolley, get your drinks, keep you focussed etc.

Pace is what I'm most worried about. I'm off at 9am and 2pm so if it's slow I'll only get a half hour break. In terms of the tiredness thing unfortunately I have MS and shave struggled playing 27 in a day before but we'll see what happens. Trolley is all ready to go :)

Maybe you will rethink your response after rereading the above from Tiger

I was actually referring to the responses from others who need to change their socks after 18 holes or go for a shower etc. My apologies to Tiger however if he thought I was making light of his MS.

Heres some strange advice for me, go find a wedding the day before and drink all day and all night, be sure to mix your drinks as much as possible. Then go out and play the next afternoon.

Thats what happened to me this weekend, was at a wedding all day of friday and then went out in the medal the next afternoon, was the first of 3 qualifiers for our club champs, i had the best round of my season so far and also a new pb. finished 8 over for a gross 76 net 63. Left a few out there too.

Unfortunately it all went horribly wrong today. Weather was horrible, wet and windy. Our tee time was delayed by 20 mins and things didn't start well. Blocked tee shot right then snap hooked my provisional. First was lost, from provisional in the thick of the trees. Chip, hit tree. Chip, hit tree, chip HIT TREE!!! Chip, two putt 9 :(

Decent tee shot on 2 but followed by snap hook lost, snap hook lost, finally down for 10. Took all your advice and settled myself down bogey, bogey, double, par. But by this stage the play was slowing down and one of my playing partners started to have a mare and it all went downhill. Stop start in crap weather and I was starting to feel mentally drained.

The constant interruptions and delays meant I was playing crap off the tee and fighting to get something back. There was some good golf in there mainly my putting, chipping and pitching which were all really solid. But I couldn't get into a rhythm. That first 18 took nearly SIX hours and I was feeling total ***** at the end, so I bowed out at the half stage.

So feeling pretty fed up, miserable and sorry for myself :(

Put it down to experience, bad weather and slow play is always going to mean your golf is not going to be great. Can't believe it was a near six hour round, if it were me I would not be going out pm even if I had shot 6 under, better things to do in life!

Give it another go next year

dont blame you Tiger, dont even think I'd get 18 in if it was taking nearly 6 hours!! what on earth were people doing, you could get 2 X 2 ball round twice in that time (nearly)

And the 'Organisers' really thaught two 18's could be done in one day. Bad luck Tiger. I would have marched off home after four hours if I had only got to the 13'th tee.

So sorry to hear about your round mate, sounds horrid! I know you will pick yourself up mate, after 6 hours I would been kaput! At my course its two rounds a week apart!

Sorry but 6 hours for any round is unacceptable. That's slower than the pros and no excuses for that. No wonder you couldn't be bothered with another dose of that. Shame it didn't go so well but I'd put a lot of it down to conditions and pace of play. Your committee needs to be looking into how their blue riband event can be that poorly run and that slow

?? are your club champ qualies not played off scratch??

We have three comps on the same day Seniors Champs (18 holes), Club Champs (36 holes Scratch) and Nett Club Champs (36 holes full handicap). We were easily the longest group to go round but I think the average 3-ball time was 5hours.

It's a long enough day but I couldn't handle the stop start, especially when one of our group had a bit of a meltdown on the back nine. I hit one good tee shot all day which says it all really. Feeling much better today and thanks for all your kind comments. Sadly I think that anything more than 18 holes just isn't possible at the moment. Hopefully, that will change over time...

There's a serious problem at that club I'm afraid. 5 hours for a round is an absolutely ridiculous pace to be playing at. The competition committee need to be looking at themselves very seriously indeed if they are happy to let that happen. Even if it is the club Championship, it shouldn't be taking anywhere near that time.

I am staggered by the 6hour round!!!:o

You would have missed your pm time by an hour if you never stopped for lunch!! You couldn't have been the last group out, so did the comp even get finished?? Sounds a shambles.

Sorry to hear you didn't feel up to the 2nd 18holes.

I don't think the weather helped. We were the last group, but the guys ahead of us didn't go back out. The comp did get finished. The third guy in my group won the net comp fair play to him for sticking it out. They had to reshuffle the second round times. My group had about 25mins for lunch and went back out about 15.10.

I think the problems stemmed from the poor weather and having the seniors on the same day. They started on the 10th so that meant the whole of the club and net champs went off the 1st. To be fair our committee are generally excellent, yesterday was just a bad day.
