I'm sorry to say that GM's offer of a prize for the most posts and best post one month from now has already caused a flurry of insincere and pointless posts with the forum far busier than usual. Each post I read I am now thinking 'is this real or just for the comp?'
Personally I dont think it was a good move and in order to protect my honour as a genuine frequent 'poster' on this forum I have decided to not post again until this competition ceases.
The whole ethos has changed and the forum has been totally de-valued in my opinion.
Off to the 19th (for a month)

It HAS been the busiest forum day I remember seeing. Suspicious.

Anyway, it's Friday night. Why are we not all down the pub? Or are we all getting up extra early to watch Gulbis and Creamer in the Solheim Cup tomorrow morning?

P.S. Don't disappear BM. The place will go mental.

the idea of a couple of prizes was a genuine one to offer a small thankyou to those people who have made the forum what it is - a good place to chat about golf - it wasn't made to force anyone to post loads and I did say that we'd discount ones that were obviously there to ramp up totals

having just been through my 'unreads' since yesterday when I left the office IMHO there aren't any that are there for the wrong reasons.

However, I dont want to upset the applecart so I'll put it out to a vote (open till Monday lunchtime)

cheers

I think the way it could have been done would be for the GM staff to do it 'covertly' I am sure they could agree which post merited a mention and poster that does likewise.

I think a good rule of thumb would have been rewarding the guys who get into the magazine in the forum section with maybe 3 free issues of our favourite read.

We are not expecting nor wanting this to move from amateur to professional status because thats what will happen when we are rewarded for what we love to do for nowt. I guess its a bit like the amateur game. We do it for the love of the craik.

Oh, and another thing. I think if we were all being honest the ultimate prize would not be a new driver or a set of clubs, I think the best prize would be getting a shot at testing some of the new stuf that comes on to the market. I remember I should my ma and pa my inclusion in the forum excert in the magazine.

I was like a dog with two d...... ProV1's

I quite like the idea of the best post each month as that at least encourages thoughtful, incisive or humerous posting. Would far rather encourage quality over quantity. I have never been a person to submit huge numbers of posts and I intend to stay just that way, only commenting when I think I have something worth saying.

As I said elsewhere, why not give the prize to the post that generates the best thread? Better to go for quality than quantity - and yes, let the GM guys decide.
(My vote for recent best was the one about carrying or trolleys - an innocent question that definitley raised the temperature!)

This is supposed to be a fun golfing forum, not a competition! The quality of posts recently has been dog turd!due to the ides of giving prizes. Its quality not quantity that counts!

I'm with you GB72 - quality not quantity.
As for prizes - we all like to win something, though we can have too many 'toys' (anyone out there with only enough clubs, bags etc for one set?). Any chance of a freebie round at a local top course (winner to pay for their own travel)?
