Multiclub membership h'cap

Have a look at the "UK Handicapping System" thread which started on 3rd December. There was a lot of discussion on how handicaps travel from course to course. If you do join the other club, you can be our guinea pig and keep us posted on how your handicap fares on both courses.

As the instigator of the thread as mentioned, all I have to say is that the UK system in no way allows for this, as in truth, you WILL have two different handicaps at the two clubs. The American system sorts this out! Whatever anyone says about the SSS system, it cannot work in the same ways as the Slope and course rating system, never has and never will, end of story.

No reply necessary.

Rubbish, you don't need 2 handicaps.check your facts.
I've been a member at 3 clubs. Did I need 3 handicaps,no!

Sadly, I do know the system inside out! - You are right, you can only nominate one club as your home club and the handicap that you have at that club is what you have to play off. What is fact though is that your handicap that you play to is truthfully only re-alistic at the nominated club, and unless the other course (es) is exactly the same in length, SSS and the like, the actual handicap that you would play to would be different at each, there really is no getting away from that, and no, the SSS system does not take that into account as the Slope system does........

I’ve been a member at two clubs for many years I see no problem with the system as it stands. My HC is kept at my “home course” my away scores compare well and if my home club was exchanged my HC would still be the same. Oh, both courses are as far away from each other as you can get, one being inland, tree lined and sheltered, lush lies and slower greens. The other pure links, tight fairways, fast greens and wind.

I am about to join a different club and there will be a few months overlap with my current membership (PAR70, SSS69). IMO the club I am going to is significantly harder (PAR 71, SSS72 +400 yards) so it will be interesting to see if my current handicap will hold up. The courses are significanty different, current is very open where as the other is tree lined with very fast greens. I am expecting my handicap to go out a bit not too much I hope but I am looking forward to the challenge.

why is your handicap only truly realistic at the nominated club?

for example,if i struggle at my home club but always shoot under my handicap at my 2nd course then surely that means the complete opposite of what you are saying...no?i may be wrong but it appears this is what you are saying.

By your reckoning you should not be able to play to your handicap at anything but your home course and by reading your other posts you can’t even do that.

I play at a lot of away opens and never had a problem with the current system. Yes this year I’ve gone up more that down, but that’s been nothing to do with my handicap.

My home course is a par 71 and the css is usually 72, the other club is a par 70 css is usually 72-73, the club I was at before as well was a par 69 and the css was always 67. the year before I went from 12.5 to 8 and got cuts from all these courses as well as a few I’d never played before or since.

If your are half decent and play on a challenging track you should be able to play to your handicap almost anywhere.

Aaarrgghhh! Just had a terrible sense of deja vu here...

Going back to the original poster, what I really don't understand is how anyone could accuse you of being a bandit if you've won 1 out of 300 comps you've entered. Don't think that could be anything further from banditry.

As for certain others posts, I retire gracefully from that particular argument as I can't really think of anything more to say on the matter!
